Does anybody have any recommendations on a quality pepper mill and a salt mill? I'm sure like everything else there are some quality ones and some to stay away from. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I admit I haven't taken the time to research them yet, somebody did tell me to stay away from metal grinding mechanisms on the salt mill due to corrosion issues but I don't know if that is a common opinion. Thanks in advance.

We have used and given away as company gifts the ones made by Peppermate for many years now. They hold up well and adjust well. The plastic ones with the clear bottoms seem to adjust better than the traditional looking ones.

The only pepper mill you need. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0000CFB4N?pc_redir=1408680128&robot_redir=1
As for salt mills, I never use one. Pre-ground salt is fine.

HTown's rec is solid. If you want a wooden mill, I would recommend pepper mills made by Vic Firth. I've had one for years.

As for salt mills, like HTown, I never use one.

I too have the Unicorn Magnum. It is easy to fill and turn with the option to change the size of your grind found on the bottom.

Clicking a link for something called the "Unicorn Magnum" was definitely my risky click of the day.

I have the 6" Unicorn Magnum. In my opinion it's the best pepper mill out there.

I agree, just find a pepper mill that you like and buy a salt box.

This one has stood up flawlessly for the last 10 years, looks to last another ten. And I'm not exactly "easy" on my stuff. If it isn't bulletproof it's not likely to last a week in my kitchen.

My GF got me this set for Christmas and it's been fantastic. I really like the adjustability. I have the 12" pepper and 9" salt, both in red lacquer. I never actually looked up what they cost until now, dang.

Like other posters, I don't use the salt that much. I also keep a small container of loose kosher salt near by.

I also have a dedicated crappy coffee grinder for large scale stuff like brisket rubs.

Peugeot makes a damn fine pepper mill...much better than the cars they make.

Instead of a salt mill just buy a case of these

Anyone know if the pink Himalayan salt at Costco is any good?

+1 for Peugeot. Apparently, cars, bicycles, and grinders make for logical manufacturing synergies.

Bought some Vic Firth ones a while back. They work fine. Agree I would not buy the salt one again. One lesson I learned was to get a bigger pepper one. Ours runs out way too fast.

I have a small set of vic firth mills and love them, though ultimately i may end up getting a salt box or shaker for in the kitchen for ease of use.
