1) Lockhart Smokehouse
2) Pecan Lodge
3) Slow Bone
4 tie)Meshack's Bar-Be-Que Shack
4 tie) Baby Back Shak
6) DWP The Grill MD
7 tie) Mike Anderson's
7 tie) Off the Bone
9) Mac's Bar-B-Que
10) 3 Stacks Smoke & Tap House
11) Smoke
12) North Main
-Honorable mention: The Original Sonny Bryan's Smokehouse

Question:
-Didn't Baby Back Shak get ripped by the show "Hungry Investors" for having terrible brisket?

And about Clarence, who happens to be as gregarious a meat master as you’ll find.
From what I remember, they ended up giving Clarance a new method of cooking brisket, and invested into the place due to location (quantity), versus taste (quality).

I just moved up to DFW from Austin. I've only eaten at Lockhart Smokehouse from that list. If it is truly #1 in all of DFW, then the BBQ up here sucks ass. I hope this list is crap.

I went to the original sonny Bryan's last Saturday and it was DISGUSTING. Literally the brisket was roast and even compared to roast it sucked. The chicken tasted canned.

The off the bone is forest hill is much better than the one they listed

Any list that doesn't have Pecan Lodge as #1 by a huge margin is a joke. They get all the hype and the line for a reason.

So which one's the best up that way? I will be at my inlaws down there on Eagle Mountain lake here in a couple weeks. I'm not very familiar with the BBQ up in that part of the state. Pecan Lodge's picture of their brisket on their homepage looks pretty good.

Pecan Lodge is the best I've had up here. Aggie owned too!

Pecan Lodge is legit. I try not to keep a Top List of Texas BBQ spots in my mind but if I did, Pecan Lodge would be #1 or 2.

Lockhart not number 1

What time should someone line up in order to get some brisket at pecan lodge?

Great question that I would like to know as well. What about on weekends compared to weekdays?

Get a group together and order more than 5lbs and you can skip the line. I've done this once at the old place (whole brisket) but I'm not sure about the Deep Ellum location so I'd call ahead to confirm.

Tried north main in Euless about a month ago. It was terrible. BBQ in buffet form is a terrible concept.

I've never understood the hype. I think it has to be location because there are no other BBQ places anywhere near them. Their food is awful.

Not from DFW but have been there enough to try a couple of those places. Honestly, I liked Hard Eight in Coppell best. Not saying it's world class, just that it was better than some of those listed here.

I've had both Pecan Lodge and Lockhart in the last couple of months. While I think Lockhart is very, very good, Pecan Lodge is head and shoulders above Lockhart! My favorite BBQ place period. And that includes all in the central TX area except for Franklins, Snows and La BBQ. I haven't tried those 3 yet.

I have to agree on Lockhart being #1. I was blown away by them. Hutchins is the only other place in the area I've tried that I'd even consider putting on Pecan Lodge's level.

mike anderson's is terrible.

CDub, I'm very surprised to hear this. I'm guessing that when you went, they hit a homerun because I wasn't that impressed, other than their sausage which is imported from Kruez.

Yeah, I'm surprised people are so down on them. I also realize that I'm higher on Kreuz than most people are as well.

Honestly, I've only been once (which is true for all D/FW area joints) but it was excellent. I would prefer if they dropped the sweet rub on the ribs because those things were perfect without it.

You don't see a thick smoke ring on this piece of brisket but it was moist, flavorful and excellent with a great crust.

It's true that I could have caught them on a good day. If so, their good days are very, very good.

I did enjoy their brisket and ribs flavor, yet they weren't cooked well. Ribs were tough and brisket was overdone. I will give them another shot however. Cool atmosphere.

Agree with most everyone. I've been to Lockhart maybe 5 times, once it was good, the others it was just meh. Pecan Lodge is always awesome. Their new location has beer too.

BTW unless the lady is an Aggie, the guy actually went to The Citadel. Ring looks similar but not an Aggie ring if that's what you were going by.

I prefer Odoms and Hardeman's to any of the one ones listed. Odoms off Singleton probably being my favorite. Crown's in Grand Prairie is probably the oldest bbq joint in DFW and most folks don't even know where it is. Pretty good smoked baloney.

Quick shout out for David's in Pantego. Always like it very much

So how early does pecan lodge usually sell out of brisket and how early does the line start forming generally?
Hincemm

Pilot can probably best answer that.

The one time I went at farmers market, we got there at 12:30 and waited 15 minutes maybe. I think it was a Thursday

David's and Coker's is good. I also like Kenneth's in south Fort Worth, people either love it or hate it--I like the prices.

We went Saturday, arrived at 10, line was probably 15-20 ppl deep. Since they are open for dinner Friday and Saturday I don't know that they sell out until real late, but I'm but sure.

I ate at Lockhart once... was NOT impressed. Won't be back. Pecan Lodge is absolutely the best, hands down. I really want to like Hard 8, the atmosphere is pretty cool, I just can't get into it.

I do eat at Marshall's in Farmers Branch often, since I office 5 minutes down the road and I enjoy the food. Being from central Texas has ruined me in terms of expecting good bbq in Dallas.

I'm not from central Texas, but was down there for 10 years and I agree with this for sure. Miss the BBQ and Mexican food in Austin.

Asked the Pecan Lodge cashier for the best times last week and she said Tue-Thur is not as crowded. Would guess 11am on those days would be fine.

They still have the express line for 5lbs or more. It's worth it IMO. Pecan Lodge leftovers are pretty freakin good.

Had the beef rib for the first time. Always sold out previously at old location. It was fantastic but be warned, it was 1.2 lbs and $26.
