Agree on Lockhart being a disappointment. I think Smoke should be a little higher. I also would like to see Odom's get some recognition.

Another vote for Pecan Lodge as best by a mile, though. I haven't checked out their new location, but I was a big fan of the shed 2 version. I hope it translates well to a larger store.

In that same vein, has anyone noticed a decline in the quality at Fargo since they blew up?

I have actually enjoyed the new Lockhart Location in downtown Plano. Been twice and received consistent results both times.

BTW Downtown Plano is starting to be a real hotbed for solid food. Mr. Wok's is some of the best Chinese in the city, Urban Crust and Urban Rio both rock, and the addition of Lockhart has been very good.

Heading to Dallas today and wanting to eat at pecan lodge. I'm guessing the line for dinner will be ridiculous?

Has brisket and ribs. Some of the best brisket I've ever had. Ribs were good too but the brisket was definitely better. Will look forward to going back soon

Had the new Lockhart in Plano. Got Brisket, Pork Chop, Half a Chicken and Sausage. Chicken was Dry, Sausage was Kreuz's and I like it, not as good as Black's but definitely better than the eckert crap most Dallas places serve, the Brisket was GREAT, perfect seasoning and bark, nicely rendered fat and tender, but frankly what took the cake was the whiskey butter pork chop. Holy shnikes, it melted in the mouth and was out of this world!

I've only been once and it was about 6 months ago (well after they blew up) and it was excellent. I can imagine that keeping the same quality when demand doubles/triples over night might be difficult though. Snow's had to build another pit.

Finally made it by pecan lodge today. It was good, however I have a hard time believing it's the 2nd best place in the state. Don't know if it's worth the pieces they charge either. Had the brisket and jalapeño cheese sausage. Wanted to get a beef rib but wasn't fixin to throw down 30 bucks for one. Also was a little upset that they didn't have any burnt ends today

Had Hutchins in McKinney and their brisket was absolutely grand. Tender and juicy, but not falling apart. Blew Lockhart Smokehouse out of the water.

I posted this in the other BBQ thread so figured I would post it here


Heading to ft worth Friday and am wanting to eat at one of the top places in dfw. I'm thinking Cousins? Would also stop at Lockhart if it was vastly better. Already had pecan lodge and thought it was great. Brisket was fantastic.
