Yes this was my 2nd time. Really cool weekend, lots of good street food and live marching bands in the streets made up of middle aged French people. Pretty cool.

I don't, I usually prefer to taste the wines before I buy. What vintage are you looking at? I was in st emilion last week…24 was a rough vintage, they were not recommending it. 22 was amazing vintage, had a few different bottlings and they were all solid. No word on 23 vintage from anyone we met with .

Good intel. I was looking at left bank 23's Leoville poyferre and pontet canet. Seemed like a mixed bag.

I'll do some more research on the '22 and that may make more sense if it was a good vintage.

As an aside, I don't know if any of y'all use ChatGPT, but it's absolutely incredible at doing this sort of research and summarizing it since it goes and scowers all of the articles and can make broad brush summaries for you.

I have found it fun to give it hypotheticals "build me a purchasing list of old world wines with a $10k budget, 70% to cellar and 30% to drink now. I'd like a mixture of well know brands and more adventurous ones." It's pretty incredible what it will spit out.

How you guys starting the holidays? Diehardpops has us started off with iron horse, MacRostie pinot, and Beaulieu Bordeaux blend.

We have a little cru Beaujolais tomorrow and a couple of Pinots to get us through all the Thanksgiving food!

Jealous. Mongeard-Mugneret Echezeaux was the wine that turned me on to good Burgundy. I'd love to try that DRC Grands Echezeaux one day.

I'd say the '13 Chappellet Zin stole the show, the Nickel Chard opened up to one of the best I've ever had, but the '19 B Cellars standard Cab held up well at the end of the night despite fried palates! I'm 38 and just have my CL and Illahe memberships.

Are the deals from auction sites? B Cellars is our only membership at the moment, the quality across the board for a producer of size is the best we've encountered. Bonus is the comp'd tasting experience for members, if I was local I would abuse that like a new Augusta National member until they took me aside and suggested I be more discerning in my visits.

And I have a '21 DrC sitting for at least the next 7 years, or longer if I can show some self control.

I was a late adopter of wine ... never really liked it when I was younger. Mostly a beer drinker.

But as I got more into cooking, I naturally began learning more about wine. Still a novice compared to a lot of folks here, but you can learn a lot quickly by following wineries and wine-related accounts on Facebook and IG.

Visiting Napa -- or any wine-producing region -- is a great way to learn ... it's so much easier to remember a winery when you've seen it up close or even just driven past it and can connect the brand with your memory. For example, we didn't visit Trefethen when we were in Napa last year but we drove by it so many times it stuck with me.

If you haven't already, sign up for First Bottle and Last Bottle. You get emails every day with new wines to buy and it's a great way to expand your awareness. The Petroni we had at Thanksgiving was a Last Bottle purchase.

By the way, that 2018 Petroni Cab Franc cost me $36 during the Last Bottle marathon sale.

It was listed for $125 on the Petroni website (now sold out).

We planned our own trip to Napa.

I hadn't been in many, many years so I was unfamiliar with the lay of the land. We spent a lot of time looking at Google Maps and trying to figure out timing -- which wineries were close together, where to eat, etc.

We had a group of six and everyone had their own preferences about where to visit, so we wound up seeing a lot of commercial, high-output places. When I go back, we're going to spend more time at the smaller wineries.

Kinda got into it late, like really only about 5-8ys ago. Alcoholism will accelerate your ramp up. Seriously tho, take the advice from the board and just try lots of different wines.
