It worth being on the future list. Still a 25-30% discount below retail prices

Yep. I've been on the futures list for a while now. Here is the 2021 data:

Futures: $185 per bottle (all in with shipping/tax)
Member release price: $265 before shipping/tax
Retail price: $295 before shipping/tax

I'd buy at $185. $295 is nuts like so much of current Napa pricing.

I forgot to mention. Latest numbers are the 2023 vintage: futures prices at $216 all-in, up 16% over two vintages.

Part inflation but I'm guessing also part vintage-driven. Everyone is saying to get their hands on as much 2023 as possible. Super long growing season and such a late harvest.

Read Roy Pipers thoughts on the prices.

It's also and insistence on margins the industry can no longer profitably sustain.

I don't think the 2023 Ridge increase was based on vintage. I'm not even sure how the Santa Cruz '23 vintage was since all the talk is Napa. But I also left out the '22s so the talk may have been steered towards '23 alone, so that's my fault. For complete comparison, I dove a little deeper:

2021- $185
2022 - $205 (10% YoY increase…biggest increase)
2023 - 216 (5% YoY increase)

I think it's about remaining profitable and not about vintage.

Oh, 2010 was $90/btl. That's as far back as my entries go.

the only Ridge I own is a 3 pack of '19 MB that I bought on secondary market for $199/750ml Seemed reasonable price. Not sure I'd go much higher, but that's mainly because I'm cheap and don't love cabernet the way some of y'all do.

More like desired (and accustomed to) profit margin. IMO it's unsustainable and they're gonna have to adjust.

Agree. CA pricing went insane. You would think that oversupply would've reversed this already, but it's coming

I'll be buying exactly 0 2023s on release (same as 22s) and instead buy them at auction in 10-12yrs for less than they are today. McD would be the only exception, but I'm not on allocation list. :-(

Well yeah, that's essentially what I meant. No one wants to earn less! And yes, I'd love to see a correction. Same for champagne. I haven't bought any recently. Mainly it's because I loaded up on 2008, but prices shot waaay up, like Napa. if I somehow need more sparkling, I'd rather buy aged on the secondary. But that won't happen for a long time. Im pretty much done buying long term agers at this point.

Still very good - color hadn't gotten too dark. Nose still excellent with great finish. At the end though and probably drinking earlier would have been a little better. It was brought by a friend of mine

That's the point, they will earn less. Quoting Roy, "My profit is exactly the same if I price my wine at $0 per bottle or $10,000 per bottle".

Paso Robles is the same way. All the winemakers I talked to back in March said to buy all the 2023s from Paso you can. They're going to be spectacular.

Yea I've seen the weather for enough years to know that 2023 is truly going to be a different one.

Side note, has a trip to Argentina ever been discussed on here? Anyone ever go down there? The Uco Valley looks nice, and flights to Mendoza, lodging, etc., is not too bad.

I went 10-12 years ago and it was fantastic. I am not sure my old info would still be super helpful, but I will see what I can dig up and share it here when I get time.

Well, even though they don't know me from Adam, if that poster or two wants to help me out I would be thrilled with an allocation of 2 bottles.

I am happy I got in on the inaugural 001 and am looking forward to building a vertical.

I had totally forgotten about ordering the 001 last spring. I just looked at my email and it looks like they put shipping on weather hold in April (was it really too hot in April?) so it will be a nice surprise at some point in the fall when it shows up.
BSD

Indeed it was too hot. I was glad with the hold. Plus, it's free storage for 8 months!!!

This is exactly where my head went as well. Sounds like a great hold!

Oh I'm not complaining about it, free storage is great. I was just thinking as i sit in 102 degree heat today that it couldn't have been that bad in April right? Right?

Very likely. I ordered a 3 pack in April when they used the same pic, description, and price in their mystery offering, and it was Le Dome.
