I will be going to a themed wine night with friends next month. Do any of you have any good recommendations on Argentinian wine?

Budget?

Let's keep it $25 and under.

Luca Malbec is usually around that price.

I will have to look that up. Thanks!

If it's a theme night, I suspect you'll get a lot of Malbec. I'd look at a Pinot Noir instead. There are some definite hidden gems there.

Bonarda (red) and Torrontes (white) are some good non-Malbec options. Bonarda tends to have some menthol notes, so it's a very unique wine grape and pretty much exclusive to Argentina. Pretty much any Bonarda or Torrontes that you can find in the US will be pretty decent.

El enemigo's standard offering bonarda is very good, as is the cab franc. Both around $25. The Gran enemigo offerings are good also, but in my opinion, need some age before they really shine, and they are $75+.

Thanks for posting all of the options. Looks like I have a few bottles to glance at.

Happy Sat all!

First time having the tin man. Very good I must say.

Rounded, layered. Plum, cocoa, underlying tartness that is a bit complex.

I had the 15 m etain last week alongside the 16 scarecrow. Tin man was much better and it wasn't close.

Sounds good! I've been up in MT and get back today. I gotta say, I like your style based on what I've seen y'all doing up there!

So cool that BV is crafting clonal wines. The 169 is very good. Clone 4 is a favorite and a go to clone for us. I'm going to get some.

Yeah, I wasn't aware they were. Just saw it on auction. Was very good. Not usually a BV fan, but the Clone4 had my interest. Very soft. Vanilla, herb, little spice. Great nose

We get an annual allocation of two specific clonal wines from Covert. They make a Clone 341 that is among their highest end offerings as well as a clone 337 / 191 blend which is an upper mid-tier priced bottle from them (they're both expensive in absolute terms though).

Little Dr Olmo last night. Was very smooth. Could definitely go longer, but I would say is peak.

2013 was a great vintage. That is probably in it's prime. I'm biased because I have not drank wine much past 12-14 old, but I think that 10-12 years is a great time for a lot of structured Bordeaux blends.

I joined the montebello mailing list thinking it would take me 3-4 years to get asked to buy. 4 months later I'm being asked if I want to buy the 2021 release.

Was this a bad year? Is demand way down? Do they know I post on Texags wine thread and want to get the word out?

It worth being on the future list. Still a 25-30% discount below retail prices

A topic for discussion: what was your "aha!" wine that turned you from a casual wine consumer, into a wino? Mine was a 2003 PETS Petite Syrah my wife and I had at The Tasting Room in Houston. We had just started dating, and went here for a Saturday afternoon tasting. We were hooked, and started going every weekend I was in town.
