Total Wine in SA (on 410 just west of the airport) has one of the most complete and incredible selections of wine and liquor I've ever seen! Check it out next time you're in town. It's an east coast chain with lots of outlets.

I've mentioned it before on this thread, but I've got a significant birthday coming up and am going to break open some of the good stuff. I'm still cogitating on what, but I just can't shake the emotion that it's like killing some of my puppies or something. I mean I know it's not even wine until it's drunk, but still...

And Brad, I just can't bring my self to open the 2007 Materium, most sites say it's got years left...

It may have years left, but do you?

(in all fairness, do I? does anyone? do it. do it.)

With a friend in town last night, we started the night with a '07 Smith-Madrone Cab. Kinda "smoky" in flavor. Really enjoyed it. Followed that up with a John Anthony, which always drinks well, then a Penner Ash Pinot and a Hall Cab with dinner.

Was a good night, for a Wednesday!

Hey no offense, I had that thought when signing a 30 year mortgage at 57...

When I first did the list that started this thread, I showed it to my then 80 year old FIL. It then occurred to me how he must view all of those "Ready to drink" dates of 2020!

TP Ag '87, pick one for our meal that Friday! I'd like to start with a 2008 Creo.

2007 Caymus Special Selection (from the BSD collection)
2006 Far Niente (from the BSD collection)
2007 Darioush Signature Cabernet
2005 Franciscan Stylus
2008 Silver Oak Alexander

That 2007 Caymus special select remains one of my fav's of all time.

In honor of our friend BSD, I'd say go with either from his collection. I was leaning toward bringing a Trefethen Dragon's Tooth, if that is acceptable.

Never had the Dragon's Tooth, is that their Malbec blend?

Saw some HaLo from Trefethen at HEB today; it was $170 or so. I'm guessing that's there luxury Cabernet blend.

On a separate thought, everyone is raving about raiding BSD's cellar and the title of the thread is "What's in your wine cellar." I think it'd be fun to see what everyone is storing away for the future along with what odd bottles some of ya'll have. Is there any easy way to post our cellars on here? I use CellarTracker but have no idea how to put it on Texags.

What wines are on your T- day table? I will have 2 Pinots( a Cali Palli Bluff 2010 and an Ore Kelley Fox) and a Gruner Velt from WA. Maybe an ice wine for dessert.

Thanksgiving is usually a day where I have a nice glass but we'll be dining at Ad Hoc that day and I'm not sure what is on their list. I may have to bring my own bottle. If that's the case, I'll go with a 2011 Cirq pinot. It's a new label so I need to try it out to see if it's worth the tariff on future vintages.

You can use the feature that loads it into excel, edit it down to remove all the nonpertinent information, and the cut and paste.

Thanks BSD. Here is what's in my cellar; I read this thread all the time but rarely post. I'm a recent collector so there's not too many old vintages and it's Napa heavy. I am working on finding what I like in old world wines but that has proven to be a large endeavor with time and money.

Any recommendations to expand my horizon away from primarily Napa Cab's?

Go ahead an flame away with criticism of this lopsided and young cellar; I keep telling myself this is a life long hobby and in 20 years some of these wines will have many stories to be told while drinking them.

Very nice. And I do it as well, but I don't think any of us need to apologize for our habit/hobby/tastes!

I would gladly assist you in wine depletion at any time! I need to branch out from Napa as well, but honestly being stuck on Napa wines would be a 1st world problem.

I've changed what I track since this thread began. Only wine I'm holding on to gets entered. There's still some Texas wine and daily drinkers on the list, but I don't enter those anymore... It is sorted by rating just for fun.

we've decided we are not opening a bottle for Thanksgiving lunch (at noon at Ad Hoc). My wife doesnt want to be plowed all day. I can't think of a better way to spend the day. Dinner is at Bistro Jeanty so we may take a bottle of cab up there. We'll see.

With my condition, I've very particular about what I drink and rarely will get a wine by the glass at a restaurant because those glasses on the menu just don't blow my skirt up. However, today at Bouchon I noticed a 3L of '07 Opus One opened up and asked for a glass. Yes, I sold out to the brand but it was worth it. Happy thanksgiving everyone.

Had a Perry Moore Beckstoffer to Kalon '06 last night. Really enjoyed it, the flavor profile reminded me more of Wash cabs than Napa, frankly.

As a non-Napa person, what is the word on the '06 vintage?

Preface: I'm new to this, and the ol' lady was just gifted a ~40 bottle wine cooler from her family. We usually have 5-6 bottles on hand from the grocery store, but she's now determined to fill the cooler and start aging some.

That being said, does anyone use WTSO.com or wine.woot? Are the wines they put up solid wines? Never heard of most of them, but the way these sites sell (straight from the wineries, right?) make it seem like it's a pretty good deal. Any other tricks to finding solid deals?
cecil77
How long do you want to ignore this user?
AG
WTSO yes. Although they have some deals which aren't that good. Google is our friend.
Wine.woot I checked for awhile but never had anything interesting, so I don't now.

Undergroundcellar.com is interesting as well, but again a little research helps. It's where I scored the 2007 Maybach Materium for $42 (it was released at $299)

invino.com would be a really good place to start for online

But as you're in Dallas, just to to Total Wine and you'll do just about as well as online.

Have fun!

where are you seeing Screalge for $500? I think they are $800-900 on the mailing list.

EDIT: I see it now. That is the second flight...the juice that isn't good enough to go into the regular bottling. I think those are released at $240 or so.

Not to be paranoid but I'd be really concerned about deeply discounted wines. Especially bigger names. Not because I'd be worried about counterfeits but provenance. Good storage is paramount.

I've had the '07 maybach and I'd certainly take a chance on that for $42 (or maybe even $100) but I'd probably drink it soon to know that it was stored well so I could either complain to the seller or at least feel confident that my own storage didn't damage it with time.
