I never met a chateau montrose that didn't love me. Such an amazing wine that's gets overlooked. If you have not had the 2009 and 2010…buy them and drink now and buy some to hold

Yes, I've seen the 2009 and 2010s are/will be amazing. I'm only buying to drink right now tho.

Took a flyer on an auction bottle. Perfumed cherry and floral nose along with forest floor. Past its prime but still tasty.

January purchase season is done (I think). Picked up:

An assortment of 2015 JJ Prum
Some Las Cases from the 80s
A couple half bottles of Altesino Brunello
Maybach (several Materium and one Vocabulum)
Rivers Marie Pinots
Dorsey (Detert vineyard CF and CS)

Hopefully February will be slow. I still want Scarecrow but passed on the '22 so not sure if they'll have me back (although at those prices, maybe everyone else dropped too)

Bard is a great wine but I don't think it is worth $150. I used to get a few bottles every year until it went above $100.

I got an email from Realm today. The 2023 Bard will be $125, which I believe is $10 less than last year.

I appreciate when folks post what they're purchasing. As someone newer to their journey in wine, it gives me ideas of things to try and waiting lists to sign up for!

Hunkered down with good wine, charcuterie, and Aggie basketball. BTHO USC and winter weather!

My recent purchases (all from Wine Spies):

2008 "Nicole" cabernet -- Firefly Vineyard
2018 zinfandel -- Frog's Leap Vineyard
2015 Atlas Peak cabernet -- Erba Mountainside Vineyards
2021 Oakville reserve cabernet -- Turnbull Wine Cellars

I recently joined several allocation lists but the only bottles I bought this year were the 2021 The Mascot.

Have you had the firefly? I have seen it on last bottle a few times but never bought it. Trying a 2018 Hewitt Rutherford tonight from last bottle.

I really like Turnbull, was a member for a bit and had that '21 Oakville. It's great!

I had the 2015 "Stephanie" Firefly and thought it was a good value at the Wine Spies price. I think I paid $25.

Always enjoy Turnbull but I've only ever had it at a restaurant. This was my first time to purchase one.

ETA: Tonight we're gonna open a 2018 Sullivan Rutherford estate merlot.

At 71 years of age my buying decisions don't include many wines to hold for very long - the math just doesn't work. So lots of 10-40 year old stuff mainly.

I'm not far off!!! Been trying to find older wines via WineSpies and wine.com where I know I can drink them now or in a year or two. But every now and then something young catches my eye!

I was a member of Turnbull for years and said I would never not be a member. But, alas, I retired, my wine consumption went down and my supply went way up. Hated to but I gave up my membership last year.

Ha, same! I have a friend who is still a member, so get some of their black labels when he buys.

Any one ever spent a bunch of time in the Languedoc? I'm probably going to spend a week just north of Beziers. Wondering if anyone has some must visit wine things in that area. I will be driving from Barcelona so not sure I want to go all the way over to Provence / Southern Rhone.

A few recent bottles.

The champagne was nice, I generally don't prefer rose champagne but enjoyed this one.

The Johan was from our recent trip to Oregon. Very lean and mineral-driven Chardonnay that went great with some Vietnamese food.

The Bella Zin was what I went for when out to lunch with some extended family members that were traveling through the area. They didn't have much input other than being fans of reds and enjoying ones on the more bold side of things. It was a great bottle price at the restaurant.

Total Wine Concierge sent an email out a bit ago with several of these for sale, 2009-2019. No idea if the prices are decent.

Opened the last of 3 2008 Firefly "Nicole" we bought from WIne Spies, was a great wine and value for $25. The cork can be a challenge, but I'll be buying more if they ever offer again.

Speaking of Ch Montrose, interesting that their owner, ( Eutopia Estates, owned by the Bouygues family) bought Viginia's RDV Vineyard a couple of years ago.

Reminded of it because we opened an RDV Rendezvous last night.
