Absolutely not
Picked up a bottle of Milam & Greenes Bluebonnet release. Just cracked it open - it's really nice. Oak nose, but not over powering. Great amber color. Very smooth - notes of honey, oak, and nice heat at the end. I like a lot of their juice, but this might be the best I've had.
Fattys had no more michters specialty left. Sad.
I had a Milam and Greene ASM that was outstanding. I wish i could find more of their stuff to try.
A little confused by the different labels and how different they are than the label that I've seen, but I had to pick these up when I saw them today.
Shockingly, Total Wine near downtown Houston had some good stuff when I went on Friday. Eagle Rare 10, Blanton's, Weller Special Reserve. Not normally seen on the shelves there. Is this the time of the year when a lot of stuff is being dropped? The employee said these would be gone quick and wouldn't be back for awhile.

This isn't the same stuff as the barrel proof. This is also their own distillate versus MGP in the original batches. These are proofed down to 80 proof versus barrel proof. Lastly, they are the same exact bottle. The one on the right has UV damage most likely from sitting in the sun. This probably also has an effect on the taste.
Frankly, I would return or exchange the one on the right if you can.
not so sure about UV damage. If that were the case, I'd expect it to have slightly more fading in different parts of the label. It looks completely uniform. Plus the lettering looks bright white, not a sun faded color. Also, the gold portion is exactly the same, or pretty close to it. I don't think the rest could have faded that much without the gold fading too. I think it's just two different labels to get people to think it's something different because they hadn't seen that color label before.ryeguy said:Bulldog73 said:

The exchange rate already doesn't favor them. Adding tariffs on top of that meant it would just sit on the shelves. It makes good business sense to just sell Canadian whiskey.
I see this as an absolute win for us.
As a frequent Canadian traveler, it was really awesome to walk into a random liquor store and be able to pick up allocated stuff off the shelf at CAD retail $ and bring it back. Way easier than hunting it here. was easier 
I was at a tiny independent store in Hurst, TX Friday night. There was not a ton of "rare" stuff in there, but for about 1.5 hours the owner had a cabinet of opened bottles that 6 of us - including the owner - sampled. Probably 8 bottles we tried including an 18 year old rum that might make me a convert.
2 out of 4 or 5 Starlight varieties he had open

An independent bottle from a guy who buys orphan barrels and bottles them(he was in the store with us)
Smoke Wagon 10 yr Rye barrel pick - outstanding and went home with me
Sazerac 125 proof rye - really good
Pinhook 10 yr barrel pick - also went home with me
Ron Izalco 18 yr cask strength rum - enough to make me a rum guy
The owner had water for us to drink between samples and then went next door and bought snacks for us as well.
The guy uses loyalty points to put you in tiers to be able to purchase rare/allocations at very close to MSRP. One of the guys sampling needed some points to buy a bottle of Thomas Handy Rye. Since I don't live there, I gifted him my points. After purchasing he opened it and let us all try it - outstanding. Then, I used his tier status to buy a Penelope Valencia - we opened it and everyone tried it as well.
If anyone is in the area go see William at Tri-City-Liquor on Pipeline Rd in Hurst - its in the same building with a Shell station.
This was the kind of store experience I have been hoping for for a long time. There was even another customer who brought in an 18 yr old bottle of Cognac for the owner to try since he knew he liked it.

Since you don't live there, how did you just stumble upon it? I assume you know one of the other customers in the store?

My wife stopped at the C-Store next door for a drink. I quickly ran in just to see what they had. Struck up a quick conversation with the guy behind the counter/owner and told him I'd be back later. Ate dinner with the family and then ran out for a little hunting. Did not know a soul in the store before I got there.
