May be a dumb question, but why is the rye considerably more expensive? Is it a more laborious manufacturing process or is rye a more expensive input than bourbon grains?

I'd be temped to grab another Kentucky Spirit. My last one didn't make it longer than a couple weeks, but it's a single barrel, so YMMV.

It is a lot of factors. Labor involved is probably the smallest. The price of Rye versus Corn definitely has an impact but the largest factor is scale. A lot of he Ryes being produced are either boutique products trying to make a buck off of sourced MGP or smaller distillers that don't have the economies of scale, like the big ones do.

If you look at the big distillers JD Rye is the same price as the Whiskey in both the bonded and SB lines. KC, OF, and WT are all the same as well.

I opted for the $60 New Riff Single Barrel (116 proof) over this silly priced RHF. They also had 1792 Sweet Wheat for $150.
