Yessir. The bourbon journey is fun.

We will get you in Austin for a bottle share one day. We can explore Weller, Wild Turkey, Garrison, BTAC and quality MGP juice in one night. I recommend a hotel and Uber. But we will treat you right.

I'll give you a sample of it if you want. It's my second favorite GB behind Guadalupe.

You doing color Friday night?

Yes, I'm on the radio call with Monaco tomorrow and Sunday.
This is great news.
Who can I contact at Learfield to suggest they make you Monaco's permanent broadcast partner, and his stand-in for play-by-play when he has a basketball conflict?

Congrats! Would share a sample of ORVW with you if I had it, but happy to share a sample of one of the allocated bottles I do have with you.

I have the '23 OF Birthday Bourbon which seems appropriate, but also some other great bottles if you prefer one of those. Just DM me.

I appreciate the offer! As a secondary celebratory note, I accepted a new job yesterday as well!

How would I go about sampling this fine bourbon you have?

Picked up my first Peerless Small Batch, such a quality pour.

If we get a Hazmat barrel of GB, this maybe a possible tater sticker

Can anyone photoshop him smashing a barrel and it exploding?

Stopped by Total Wine on the way home. The Corpus Store has a decent ASM selection and they had a few of them marked down (as i assume im the only person in town who actually buys them)

Picked up 3 bottles to try.

Got home and poured a 1/4 oz of each just to get a sip.

The Fox and Odem appears to be a sourced brand out of MI. Decent Whiskey. I get kind of a burnt chocolate taste to it. Not worth it at 60 but for the 42 dollar sale price it is ok. Will probably not get it again

The Acre Texas Single Malt Whisky. It was 30 dollars. I regret the purchase.

Unbendt Straight Malt Whiskey - This was a shocker. It is a mix of 60% malted barley and 40% soft red wheat. I am impressed. At the 38 i paid this is a buy all day long. The wheat really adds a level of sweetness to the typical dry single malt flavors. This is easily one of the best Texas Whiskey's i have tasted.

to be fair Balcones uses Texas Single Malt Whisky on their labels and the Lineage and 1 are both certainly drinkable.

This is not.

Save it for a gag gift. Fill an old bottle of ORVW with it and watch people's reaction.

I was done with Balcones when we toured there and they had a palette as licking a bbq pit. **** those Austin yuppies.

Got a whiskey flight at a local bar.

Buffalo trace - Elijah Craig Small Batch - Old Forester Rye 100

First time trying them all.

I like the rye the best and the wife likes the BT the best.

Not a fan of the EC. Taste like I'm chewing bark.

I like the nose of the EC the best too.

Not a popular opinion but in with you on EC. It's just not for me.

Since I'm new to the game. Any other popular brands that are heavy towards the oak? (Assuming that's what I'm tasting) so I can avoid them.

I don't like heavy peat scotch as well. (Or any peat really)

First off, don't base Elijah Craig offerings off of Small Batch.

I don't think I've even had that before.

Gotta get EC Toasted Barrel, EC Private Barrel or a EC Barrel Proof and then work your way up from there. People here really enjoy EC18.

You gotta like the oak though. It's not overpowering oak per se, it is the predominant note imo.
ConfidentAg

Anything I should try from this compartment?

AgCzar

Agreed. Oak is definitely the predominant note in the EC18. But I don't even get a hint of it on the others.

It's all worth trying, but probably not at the prices they want to charge. Don't pay more than $15 for a pour of any of that when you can sample from friends or at bottle shares
Tksymm7

How much per pour, but I see that WLW on the right. That's a unicorn of unicorns, and as long as i didn't have to take out a mortgage I would want that.
ConfidentAg

WLW is the one I was gonna ask about
Tksymm7
How long do you want to ignore this user?
AG
Yeah the normal options are more traditional bourbon tasting, my pallet picks up more oak than others.

$87.50 for one ounce.

My wife is with me so I can't drop that

Anything in that middle compartment is unicorn territory.

If you are new to bourbon id recommend one of the van winkles over the higher proof BTAC.
Tom Cardy

The van winkle rye is probably the best of the bunch in that group, but if you're still somewhat new you're better off waiting until you develop a better sense for your palate. Just my opinion, but also send it if you want to

If you don't like heavy flavors. Then Buffalo Trace products, 4 roses, Makers are all more floral/fruity/sweet.

Old Forester 100, WT 101, Jack SB, KC are more of your typical bourbon flavors.

If you like the OF Rye, which i do as well, you might grab a bottle of the OF 100 bourbon for 30ish. Worst case it is an excellent mixer.

You should also try a pour of Woodford Double Oak or OF 1910 at a bar and see if you like either one of those. that will tell you if it is oaky flavors or EC in particular that you don't like. I like both of the formers.

Four roses single barrel is still the best whiskey I have tried so far.

Knob creek 9 isn't too far behind.

Penelope architect was good and a bit better than the WT101 I have.
