Eagle Rare and Weller 12?

But if we are talking everyday bottles on the shelf……WSR, Makers 46, a good BT store pick

(Yes I know "smooth" is taboo for some"

If limited to bourbon, then probably
-Angel's Envy (cost depends on store)
-Larceny
-Eagle Rare would top my list, but costs too much.

If not limited to bourbon:
-Jameson
-Redbreast

Based on my wife's palate. Light wheaters are her jam.

We had a huge blind tasting once and she said her favorite pours were ORVW and CYPB…..I was like "I bet they are"…..lol

If by "smoothest" you mean no ethanol burn and slightly sweet then i'd go with an 80 proof corn whisky. Regular Larceny or Makers would both work as well.

Crown XO for a woman
Always the most goodest

Smooth is NOT a flavor!!!

However, I would submit Bardstown Origin bottled in bond to this list. Little to no alcohol burn- very good sipper. And, right about $45!

EC Barrel Proof

Also had a few other decent pours.

Some of you have mentioned Ironroot before. Is it worth making the trip up there while visiting DFW? I've seen a few of their bottles on the shelves at Specs, but have never tried it. I'm assuming there would be more options at the distillery.

Book a tour and enjoy yourself. I always have a good time on distillery tours because all the process is the same, you get a different story, smell, environment from every distillery. You have to appreciate the art and science of bourbon.

It's a good time. If you do the "tour" it's a bit different than the others that just walk you through the same ol process…in a good way. Talked a lot about corn and interesting things connecting them to wine/cognac. Was all run by the family when we went a few months ago, including the dad pouring samples in the shop area and the mom leading the tasting.

Anyone try this Makers Mark (or any of the others that are part of the city series) before?

Headed to Louisville, KY for a business trip next week. A quick google search showed some great distilleries in the area. As a firs-timer to Louisville...what say this board on the can't miss places to visit?

Peerless was a great tour and tasting. The Louisville Slugger factory is a must see imo. It's a short tour and you get a mini bat at the end. Great souvenir if you have kids.

I didn't tour Old Forrester, but they have a bar with some great flights. I think it was $30-$40 for a flight of their high end pours and it was some of the best bourbon we had. We got to try the 117, Presidents Choice, and things like that.

Biggest thing I recommend is going to some of the local bars, including the hotel bars. They will do 1.25oz pours and tend to have a ton of rare stuff. I got half pours everywhere I went and tried a ton of unicorns and other stuff I haven't had. Take advantage because these bars have way better selection than what you see most places. Most of the restaurants have great bars with half pours too.

Evergreen Liquors on E. Market has an awesome little bar with great pours and great prices. The bartenders were pretty cool, and they have a ton of great picks.

1. Old Forester

Close to Louisville
1. Makers Mark
2. Heaven Hill
3. Buffalo Trace
4. Woodford Reserve

If Wild Turkey is fine with renovations. That is a good one.

Local bars. Can get a shot of just about anything.

We did the Evan Williams speakeasy experience that my wife who hates bourbon enjoyed. It also allowed us to buy McKenna & Toasted barrel at MSRP before McKenna was available everywhere.

Some good recommendations already. I will go with something slightly different. Pick up a bottle (or 2) of Evan Williams Single Barrel. It was the last of the great bottles in the 30 dollar range that used to be widely available and are now either allocated to some extent or in this case KY only.

Was just there last weekend. Best tours IMO were Jim Beam and Woodford. Buffalo trace was good but very commercialized. Jim Beam had out Knob 12 and 18, little book, bookers and Jim beam lineage. Do the tasting at Heaven Hill. They have nice bottles behind closed doors. Snagged a William Heavenhill 15 year. Go to NEAT bar and bottle shop. Really cool bottles and cheap pours.

Michters is in Louisville. You can bottle your own bottle.

Evan Williams tour is nice for a history of bourbon lesson. Or you can just walk up to the gift store and snag a bottle of ECBP. And can you snag me a bottle of the Master Blend while you're there? I just ran out last night

The Beam site is first class, highly recommend if you just have time to do one away from the city.
