Isn't it technically illegal to drink in liquor store lots?

If that's the case then we avoided some jail time. Remember the first Rebecca Creek release party at OLC? Everyone getting lit in the parking lot. Man that was a good time.

Hopefully we can do something like that for the New Riff drop.

Stopped by the infamous Smith St location while visiting Houston.

This was taken earlier this afternoon. It's been a rainy day in H-Town.

Holy **** people are already lined up?!

That's from last year. Just a little Christmas Eve Eve fun.

But it does make you wonder. With the list being out and date posted, how soon will people start getting in line.

Nothing compared to HOU drop last year.

I was 200th in line and it was insane how long it got by the 10am open.

I believe this was the "9am update" that morning at an estimated 800-900 folks and heard it got up to over 1,000.

this picture is kind of misleading. That longline was because of all the people spread out with their tents and chairs. I got there around 6am and was at the bottom left corner. However after everyone put away all their stuff, at 10 am, I started at the upper left hand corner. regardless it still took 3 hours to even get inside

never again

I think it's going to be worse this year.

It's the new Black Friday and kind of "fashion" if you will for some people.

possibly. However this year's selection doesn't seem as prominent as last year's

I'm a little new to the page so I've been scrolling up and lurking so to speak, but I really enjoy the Jack Select Barrel Proof Rye. It's got a ton of changing flavors and is almost candy like at times, for me. As long as you can get through really high proof, it's a really great rye, and dare I say one of the best ryes out there.

The line was absurdly slow for last year's big release in Houston especially compared to the previous one. Glad I left after a couple hours.

It's a good one. I took a chance on it recently even though I'm not a rye drinker, and it was a great pour. Cracking a MWND 11 tomorrow and hoping it's as good or better.

I'm digging the Old Overholt 10 year cask strength rye, but it's pricey at around $100.

I'll never understand the people who will get in line 3 days early for a release. That just seems crazy to me. I can somewhat see the night before but just sitting around for 3 days during the holidays doesn't make sense. To each their own…. Be interesting seeing how big the lines get this year.

Everyone is free to spend their time however they please. What's someone's pain is another's pleasure.

It's not gay if it gets you an allocated bottle at retail.

MSRP is 160ish I think.

Secondary around 1500 I think

My understanding of the BTAC+Pappy Lineup secondary pricing is:

Handy - 600-650
GTS - 900-1000
Saz18 - 1400
ER17 - 1500
WLW - 1500
ORVW - 850-1000
Lot B - 1000
VWFRR - 1200?
PVW 15 - 1500-1800
PVW 20 - 2000-2300
PVW 23 - 3000?

Feel free to correct me.

And just to be clear, I think those are the prices current year releases trade hands at. In terms of "value", whether they are worth that much is a personal decision.

LOL thats what I get for not reading the context. Carry on.

You can't pay rent with dignity so why bother maintaining any??

Have any of you ever tried a $30, $300, and $3000 bourbon and been able to say that each jump in price was an order of magnitude better in taste?

Value certainly doesn't scale linearly but that is true in every collectors or hobbyist endeavor. Golf, High-end Audio equipment, Watches, Wines, Cars, Guns, all follow the same rules. The top end stuff is usually better than mid-range stuff (though not always) but certainly doesn't win on the value scale.

When bourbon scarcity gets stupid enough to drive prices up 10-100x msrp, I switch to rum and tequila. I'm perfectly fine drinking Buffalo Trace at $25/bottle.

Especially since BT is fantastic and always punches above its weight.

I gotta brag on my wife. A number of years ago I did some ancestry research to discover that my family came from Scotland. Back in the 1620s, my ancestors started a little distillery in Dundee Scotland. The distillery was the James Watson Distillery.

As it would happen, the first Watson that came to the colonies was James Watson, his father (also a James Watson) was the founder of the distillery. Fast forward some generations when I discover this tidbit, and my father is a James Watson and as it would be my son is also a James Watson.

The distillery was open from the 1620s until its closure in 1989. A on my 12th anniversary, my wife surprised me with a bottle of James Watson Scotch. She found one bottle and I have kept it and never opened it as it is the only one I have. I intended to pass it on to my son.

This year for Christmas she surprised me with another bottle. I was more than surprised. With this bottle I will save it for a very special occasion. Maybe a child's wedding or the birth of a grandchild. But a very special event for sure.

But she certainly out did herself. She is amazing.

Nice evening in the hill country to enjoy a fire and some good whiskey. I'm not a rye drinker, but I'm sure glad I picked this up! Merry Christmas Ags!
