Just moved to a TW area in South Carolina. I have the app and have started buying. Where do I find out about the 10x for wine promos? I have only seen x off Winery Direct or Whatever. I was helping a buddy in CA with this yesterday. The deals vary by location, based on what you choose as your "preferred store" in your account settings. You also will only see the 10x points deals if you have a preferred store set before the deal goes live. I recommend setting your preferred store to a Texas one and then wait and see if the 10x points offer comes up when it renews. My current one expires 12/10 so it will be sometime after that.

Luckily it seems to not mess with the GPS selection of a store close to you for actual shopping, just determines which deals you get and maybe some emails or something, not sure.

Check the last answer in the "How to Use Personalized Deals" section of the FAQ

Thanks everyone for the replies. The deal must be as stated above. I have deals to activate and have…gift bags, discounts off classes, and $ and % off of spirits or winery direct. But have never seen the 10x points or anything like it. Will switch my store to one in Texas and see if that triggers the deal.

They're variable. I bought 4 before they really took off as I'm a sucker for 10-12yr berbz.

I cracked my McKenna on Saturday and very much enjoyed it. I would definitely buy another bottle at retail.

I need to revisit my McKenna, as I did not enjoy it the last time I tried it. It's sitting on my shelf taking up space. Maybe I'll bring it to a bottle share and see what others think.

I've had really good McKenna, and some barely ok McKenna. Was worth the gamble at $40, too many other reliable options at $60. I think a lot of people are thinking the same thing, the latest batch was just sitting on the shelf at the local Total Wine last week with the higher price.

I enjoyed mine. Grabbed a backup bottle yesterday so plan to do a side by side comparison of the two since they are single barrels.

Like others have said, those single barrels can have a lot of variation. I just killed a Blanton's that was one of the best bottles I've had this year and have another open that's pretty mediocre.

My understanding there was a noticeable drop in quality the last few years as the popularity exploded. I've heard it has rebounded recently but can't personally verify. The last bottle i drank was not good, but I have had really good ones in the past.

I agree with Shaggie that the price hike doesn't do it any favors. The last bottle i bought was because it was all that was left at a drop and for whatever reason i felt the need to buy something. It is just sitting on my shelf unopened because there are tons of other things id rather have instead. That being said if someone has never had it, i'd say its worth a gamble to try it. I know i've gambled on worse bottles.

Yeah, that was the first time I had ever had any McKenna, so I have nothing to compare it to. Also, my palate is meh at best, so I generally like most everything.

On another note, i saw a High West Midwinter Nights Dram at TW last week for $169.99 - not sure what secondary is on those, but geez - hard pass for me.

After tax, that might be above secondary when it's all said and done. 190k bottles released this year. That's an insane amount for a special release.

The most important thing is to drink what you like and dont worry about what anyone else thinks. I'm a huge ASM fan while most folks on here would probably tell you its trash.

If you are new to it, then trying a bunch of different things is exactly what you want to be doing. That is how you will begin to learn what you actually like.

Cracked open the High West on Wednesday and loved it. Not sure what I am going to do with the Michter's 20 year yet but I would hate not to drink it. Haven't had the Wellers full proof before, what are everyone's thoughts on it?

LOL good point. I will say that being a wine guy for a long time while getting into bourbons more and more is the reason. I have a lot of relationships through wine, with store owners that I have spent a good amount with over the years which certainly helps on the higher dollar stuff.

Makes sense, I think it's grail-level for a lot of people. I've had it one time and it was excellent, not much to compare it to

Never said I hadn't heard of it just that I hadn't had it. And yes spending a $1,000+ on something that is listed on the secondary market for $5,000+ doesn't seem like a bad decision even if I intend to open it.
