KC9 and RC were the unanimous favorites with Blue Note in third.
Unanimous as in they split votes for favorite???? Because that's not.... nevermind :-)

Or unanimous as in everyone thought KC9 was #1 and RC was #2? Something else?

What are y'all's thoughts on Larceny barrel proof? I have absolutely hated every single one I have tried, and don't understand (1) why it is considered as an equal with Elijah Craig barrel proof, or (2) why it has any secondary value at all. Do people actually like that stuff?

I gave up trying to like it after trying two batches

Didn't realize there was a secondary market for Larceny BP. It's not even considered a limited drop here and while not at every store I could easily find it within a 10 minute drive or order as much as I wanted to online.

As far as taste good for me I'd personally pick makers 46 or even regular makers cask strength over it

I have seen it posted over on the TexAgs trading thread multiple times marked up to $80, and I see it on Facebook secondary pages regularly. Makes no sense to me... I would much rather drink Wild Turkey 101 haha

Wasn't a fan either. Gave the bottle to my brother and he gave it to some E4s in his department

Same thoughts as you very Meh for me. My son, however (he is 22) loves it. Guess it is a certain pallet that likes them? Will drink it but not going to go out of my way to find it. And I always pick up ECBP when I see it at retail.

Fair enough I guess. I do enjoy ECBP though, and will always pick it up when I see it at a store too.

I've done a few side by side tastings with ECBP and LBP among buddies, and the consensus has been that ECPB is just a little more complex but that both are fairly similar otherwise. I don't actively seek out LBP, but I'll keep one around

Here's what's great about LBP:

1) Available
2) Out drinks W12 363 days a year

I've had LBP in many, many wheated blinds. And I always love seeing the looks on faces when LBP out ranks the Weller family of wheaters.

Looked back at my notes, and these were the last 3 wheat based blinds we did:

Blind 1:

A) Copper Sky SP
B) Makers CS
C) LBP
D) W12

Blind 2:

A) Makers FAE-02
B) WFP
C) LBP
D) ECBP

Blind 3:

A) LBP
B) Makers BEP
C) W107
D) Rebel 10SB

Anyone want to guess the winner of each blind?

Hint - LBP was only beat out in one of these blinds.

We have wildly different palates. I guess that's what makes whiskey fun, there's something for everyone. Out of all listed options, the only two I'd put below LBP are copper sky and Rebel 10.

Do you ever try blinding your favs against stuff that is "wildly different" than your palate? Just curious.

Larceny has a pretty distinct profile/note to me so I don't know how it would do in a blind tasting recognizing it from the start. I doubt I will buy another LBP after finishing my C921, but I don't regret the purchase for around $50.

I have in the past when I was getting into whiskey. But at this point I know what I like, so I just buy it and avoid the stuff I dislike. I will try new stuff if it's a club pick, but all these new craft distilleries are producing stuff that generally tastes the same to me... young and hot. Great for women, not for whiskey haha. I'm falling down the dusty rabbit hole these days, whiskey was so much better in the 90s and earlier

Well, that pretty well describes the boutique brands that buy MGP, age in house, then drop it into a fancy bottle and pretty label and get it to market. Bc if it's brown water, it sells. Demand remains incredibly hight.

I just think you might surprise yourself if you took your favs and put them in a blind with similar proof "other stuff". Blind tasting is humbling and eye opening.

That's actually an example of one of the new craft distilleries I think all taste the same haha. I've tried multiple club and store picks, since everyone raves about them. I don't think they're bad, just nothing special.

I agree, I thought blinds were fun when I was new to whiskey. At this point though I'm not going to take a flier spending money on new stuff when I have plenty of bottles and know what I like. I'll still do the occasional blind when people give me samples. But spending money on bottles I don't need when I have stuff I know I like doesn't really make sense for me personally anymore. For the most part, good whiskey is either allocated or accessible by club/store pick single barrels, in my opinion.

That's one of the "meh" ones for me. Architect too. They are not drain pours by any means, but they just don't do anything special for me. I'd rather spend money elsewhere.

Just felt like one of those days to cook.

Smoked and pan seared Tri-Tip to medium rare. Roasted garlic sweet potatoes. Garlic butter and bacon green beans. One cannot forget the proper drink to accompany such a fine dinner spread…Knob Creek 15

Toasted Penelope has been one of my daily preferences for a little while now. I think I'm on bottle #3 as well… or maybe 4.

Enjoying a cocktail while grilling dinner this evening, and I get a notification that I won a signed Masters Keep Unforgotten in a charity drawing I forgot I entered. Not what I was shooting for in the drawing (17yr purple top), but I'm not gonna complain.

Now if the stars can hold on for 2 more minutes it'll be just about a perfect evening.

Shaggie...Love Pagosa Springs, just a long long drive from B/CS.

Okay, back to bourbon talk....drove through East Texas yesterday, stopped at a Zipps Liquor in Oakwood, TX and they had a case of Stagg Jr. Price tag was $299.99 so if anyone is interested there are still 6 on the shelf.

299 for the case or per bottle? for the case you should have snatched that up for the bottle, well ouch.
