If we're including previously produced juice, I'd choose MGP. If it's going forward, I'd pick Wild Turkey (or maybe Four Roses...).

I love some 4 roses but the lack of variety is why I wouldn't pick them if I could only drink from one distillery for the rest of my life.

Another one I saw at my small store I haven't seen was the Prideful goat 6 year rye. It was also $75. How is it?
Good question. I've wanted to try the Bourbon too but it's never in stock where I shop.

Come to OLC on Saturday for the bottle release. They have both the Rye and the Bourbon!

I did, Saturday night. It was good, definitely drinks below 107pf for me. You were right that the nose is very similar to weller

If I had easy access to any iteration, Four Roses would be up there. The barrel strength single barrels would technically provide 10 different whiskey options before you even get into the blends and LEs.

Though I think I would have to go HH just for true variation and high end aged stuff.

If I'm going to pick one distillery and the available bourbons found on the shelf with the occasional barrel proof as it is our current climate…it would probably be Maker's. With Wild Turkey not far behind.

Yessir, the variety maybe smaller than other distilleries but people forget about their limited offerings.

Man it's a toss up between Bardstown and Turkey for me. Probably slight edge to Bardstown since they have a little more variety due to blending and finishing.

How's the origin series? I've got a black label I haven't cracked yet, too many opens. But I have a lead on a white label if it's worth it.

Turkey.

Then 4R or Maker's

It's really good, and for under $50. I haven't cracked my white label but hear it's just as good.

Lets add more to the question. What if you had to factor in availability and price?

The limited 4 roses are amazing but i doubt anyone if going to daily drink a 280 bottle for the rest of their lives, not to mention being able able to secure them. The single barrels are great but do you want to be stuck with just those and small batch select forever?

Unless you live in Kentucky your going to run into the same problem with HH but will at least have more variety of things to drink.

Yes that Bottled in Bond is great- especially for the price!

Oh and I emailed Garrison Bros requesting to do a Single Barrel pick and they basically said to piss off.

They only work with stores/commercial outlets. So I'll have to network a little. I could probably use OLC again.

I was just going to say Michters and sip on 20-25 year bourbon and rye for the rest of my life. Plus their toasted stuff can make an awesome old fashion

Really? Our group has done 2 with them. It's been a while though because the waiting list is about as long as my leg.

Jim Beam has been my go to for many years. But just browsing this thread, maybe it's time to try something new.

Any recommendations on something I should try that won't break the bank?

If you like Beam the next steps up would be Knob Creek (40 ish) or Baker's (60 ish). Do not waste your time with Basil Hayden.

Other suggestions in the basic Beam price ranges would be Evan Williams Bottled-In-Bond and Old Forester 86 or 100 either will work. Wild card in this price range would be Bowman Brothers.

If you want to branch out to a different flavor profiles and little higher proof a Four Roses Single Barrel, Makers Mark Cask Strength, or Old Forester 1920 are all easy to find 100+ proof around the 45-50 dollar range.

Bobby,

Can you tell us which Jim Beam products you enjoy for us to help you with other suggestions?
