In San Antonio for the holidays. Anyone have a lead on some FR 125th SmBatch or have some they are willing to sell and in the area?

Not sure if this is the right crowd, but I have a few questions about TX distributions:

1. Anyone have any insight on when/if TX will start getting Smooth Ambler/Hillrock products?

2. Anyone know of any barrel selections that will be hitting Houston anytime in the next few months (Four Roses/Willet, etc.)? The guys at spec's don't seem to know anything (I know, standard). Just curious if any other big chains were planning a barrel selection.

3. Anyone going to the AECS event in Houston?

We need to find out who the bourbon buyer is at specs. Screw the middle man.

When I went back to the CS specs the other day, their price for the experimental BT was $75. I'm gonna pass for now.

I'm going to watch JFF play his last college FB game and send this year out with a bang. I'm watching the pregame with a Sazerac made with THH. The first half will be sipping ER17 and the second half will be a comparison of 2012 GTS and 2013 GTS. When JFF scores, I score.

Just hope I can get out of bed tomorrow.

Just picked up the Angels Envy special Specs blend done by Col. Jules. Any one tried it? Waiting to open with a good buddy but was wondering how much different it was from normal Angels Envy?

Anbody on here tried Michters 10 before? I might have a bottle soon.

I've had the spec's AE. It was good, but nothing spectacular. If you like AE, you will like it as well.

I have a sample of the Michters 10 headed my way. I will let you know what I think. Rumor is that the earlier batches were awesome and these newer batches are just okay. That seems to be the way it goes with Michters/Jefferson types. They put the best batches/barrels out first to get the hype up and unload the less than fantastic stuff on the tail end. You should look up how to distinguish the batch coding before you buy.

I have always been a Makers Mark guy. So have my in-laws. We all prefer our bourbon simply on the rocks....mother-in-law included.

They recently did a blind taste test with some friends and were shocked to find that Makers Mark came in dead last.

Their results were:
1) Bulleit Bourbon
2) Something here -- will find out
3) Something here ---will find out
4) Makers Mark

I just returned from visiting them for Christmas and was surprised to hear that they quit drinking Makers in favor of Bulleit. When I arrived for Christmas, I stopped by the liquor store an picked up a bottle of Buffalo Trace. We decided to do another blind taste test with what we had on hand and here were the results (4 tasters):

1) Bulleit....all 4 tasters had this #1
2) Buffalo Trace
3) Wild Turkey 101...1 taster had this ranked 2nd

Just thought I'd share. Consider me a big Bulleit fan now...especially with they way the price of Makers has sky-rocketed.

^^^ if you like Bulleit that much, give Four Roses Small Batch and Single Barrel a try. Four Roses is currently making all of the juice for Bulleit, you just get to cut out a middleman...

My favorite $30ish bourbon is W.L. Weller 12.

That is the SB Blend, several here have plenty of experience with it.

I have kind of a solera system with a 1.75 L, 1 L, and a 750 ml bottle. I blend in the 1.75, then use that to fill the liter, and use that to fill the 750. That way the proportions can vary some, but everything still stays pretty consistent, and ensures decent mingling time.

Yes, this blend is very good but does not taste like Pappy.

Saving you some time - Go with 60% OWA / 40% W12. Let it marinate for 2 weeks and you are golden!

I would think they would update the website as the event gets closer.

Got this today. A little hot with a back end bite, but smooth up front with caramel, vanilla, cinnamon, and some fruit undertones mixed in. Pretty good stuff.
