Nice trip, Frugal MacDoogal has some good prices, selections and store picks. Next time stop at Corkdorks (more store picks than FM) and Elixer, the owner has about 70-80 bottles open to try, maybe more. Both stores have some unbelievable rare character store picks. I'll actually be at liquor locker in Tullahoma tomorrow as it's one of my more local stores. You were most likely talking to the Indian guy named Peeush, he's great, I'm planning on dropping off a dozen samples for him tomorrow.

You should have grabbed a distillers series twice barreled rye when you were at JD, love that bottle.

Peeush had to be who I was chatting with, super nice guy and very knowledgeable, I was very happy to have made the stop at Liquor Locker and will do again if the opportunity arises. Thanks for the intel on Corkdorks and Elixir, will do those next time through Nashville. Hope to make a trip to catch a show at the opry or ryman in the future.

As for JD, would have grabbed that twice barreled if it was available but unfortunately was not the case when we visited.

Treaty Oak bought by group that plans to make organic bourbon and add vodka to the lineup.

I just don't see anyone caring if their bourbon is certified organic or not. that just seems like an excuse to jack up prices fora brand, that i recall, is still pretty cheap.

Great score on the Prohibition Collection. Definitely want that one

I had just come from reading a few days of posts on the "Official Funny Political Tweet Thread" and then read some ****BOURBON**** posts. Kept reading this post with that in mind and it cracked me up at first.

Ended up getting it for right at MSRP so about a $1050.00. Still pricey but much better than secondary.

What is everyone drinking tonight?

Just opened up a 2XO French Oak after seeing the SLB guys talk about it earlier this week.

It's a pretty solid $45 bottle. Not the most complex pour but certainly good. definitely get the creme notes like the MM but with a rye spice on the back end.

Went to the Ironroot 10th anniversary celebration today in Denison. Great party. They had some excellent Old Fashioneds, tastings of standard stuff and new releases for the party, and purchases of new releases. They have some good stuff, haven't tried much of their products until now.

I'm not a fan of Texas bourbons in general, but I do like Ironroot.

I know the master distiller at Ironroot - Jonathan Likarish. He is a great guy and the distillery is run by his brother and parents.
They put out some good stuff, which is different from other TX bourbons. They have also won some big awards. Lots of gold medals and distiller pd the year.

Tried Elijah Craig single barrel, barrel strength, 9 year, 119.5 proof, Specs pick. It's ok, but I'm not a fan. It would not be disappointing if it was half the price.
HouseDivided06

Did you just now open it? If so, I'd give it a month or two and let it open up some. Those high alcohol content bourbons can drink extremely hot initially and mellow out over time.
HECUBUS
How long do you want to ignore this user?
AG
Yes. I just opened it. I'll definitely let it sit because I did score a Frey Ranch barrel strength, Specs pick, that I've had before that's really good.

The neck pour is a real thing, give it some time and hopefully your next pour is tasty. One of my favorite bottles was a Discovery 4, I was very disappointed with my first pour, especially since it was the most expensive bottle I had got up to that point (my wife had bought it for me as a gift). I tried it again and it ended up being one of the best bottles I've ever had.

Was in Sydney for work last week. Went to the Baxter Inn - I've posted about it before. It's an awesome bar, they have a fantastic whiskey selection, and make (just maybe) the best Old Fashioned on the planet. Talked to the bartender about their craft - she told me they use a blend to make their cocktail:

9 parts Buffalo Trace, 9 parts Wild Turkey, and 2 parts Michter's

So, I picked up the necessary bottles yesterday (not normally a Wild Turkey drinker), made the blend today, and just made an Old Fashioned. I have to say it's pretty good. I would have never thought to make a blend of that combination, but it works very well.

Cheers, Ags!
