Looking for a little help here, getting married next week and need to pick a bourbon to serve and having trouble deciding. Budget is Makers/Bulleit/Four Roses price range. Will be primarily mixed drinks with the "signature cocktail" being a whiskey sour. What's the board's thoughts/recommendations?
For a mixer? Old Grand dad 114 and OF 100 Rye. Both are also great neat or over a big rock.
Four roses small batch is a great all around bourbon. Makers is as well. Can't go wrong with either.
In the 20 - 30 dollar price range i find it had to beat Old Forester 100 or WT 101.
While i agree that OGD 114 is good for the price, it may drink a little hot for some folks.

Where u at. Magnum bottles of Eagle Rare make a legit table topper conversation and a nice drink. Its my wedding supply go-to. Furnished 3 weddings last year.

Specs near 290 and Brodie currently has Buffalo Trace single barrels. That's a good cheap neat pour or mixer that would appeal to the masses.

Stay below 100 proof is the best move. You don't want someone getting tanked because they're used to 80 proof whiskey sours. We did ER but Old Fo 86, Old Overholt, Russell's 10, WT, 4R Small Batch or Sib are solid choices without contributing to Aunt Barb puking on the dance floor.
I think Evan Williams Bottled in Bond is pretty good for a mixer/cocktail. $24.99 for a 1.75 doesn't hurt either.
Congratulations!! I would recommend Rittenhouse rye as a really good option for the mixers, especially old fashioned and whiskey sours. Old forester rye is also really good. For straight pours, the buffalo trace store pick, WT101, Eagle Rare and maybe a Knob Creek 9.

Just ended up going with Makers. Figure it to be about as safe as I could go
Since i agreed with choosing Makers, I'm pretty sure that means I get first right of refusal for any of the allocated emails you may get.
In all seriousness Makers is a good choice. Its good enough to drink neat, is a great mixer, and something that everyone can be happy with drinking.
