Tonight has been Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout with a Left Hand Nitro Milk Chocolate Stout mixed in.

This was nice. A divisive drink for sure, lots of spice in it. The 10% ABV is well hidden. Dangerously so.

This is a DO NOT BUY advisory. Saw this one at HEB in Huntsville and thought Czechs make good beer and I generally like Mexican beers so why not. But this was a fail for me and my taste buds. The taste is hard to describe other than it's just unpleasant to me. At least I only bought a six pack.



That being said, this brewery in Lovelady is about an hour from our house on Lake Livingston. So, I guess I need to drive over and sample their other beers.

ETA: They do make a damn fine burger though but their venue is a dump.

You're kinder than me. If I have a beer that bad from a brewery I just move on and write them off for good. Looking at you, Rahr & Sons.

They packaged and sold an objectively bad amber that tasted like pure teriyaki water. Was putrid. Bad enough to not give benefit of the doubt for other beers. There are more than enough marketplace options out there.

I can see where my post is slightly different than what Steve Austin was saying, though. But anytime someone brings up bad beers I think back to that experience for me. Never have bought a six pack that I had to drain pour like I did with that one. Would be ashamed to give anyone the beer that I had.

FWIW I liked another Rahr beer pre-Texas Red fail. But I never had it again after that failure that I can recall.

That's hardly worth writing off an entire brewery. Try their other beers..

Even getting a legit 'bad' beer (oxidized, skunked, flat, gusher, etc), I don't know if I'd totally write off a brewery, especially if they own up to it and recall it.

If it's like Leinenkugel to me, and every beer I've tried is just not good, then I write them off!

Eh… I'll write off breweries if they piss me off.

512 in Austin bottled what they knew was an infected barrel aged stout maybe 8-9 years ago and wouldn't admit it was infected, recall the bottles, etc. Just basically said it was supposed to taste that way. Now I don't drink 512 anymore.

Places like JK and Austin Beerworks have recalled beers because they didn't taste right to them (I thought they were fine) and will have my business forever.

I got an infected barrel-aged barley wine from Santa Fe Brewing over ten years ago that they knowingly sold infected and haven't had a beer of theirs since.

Yep, JK and ABW do things right.

Rahr is pretty below average across the board.

Stesti is another one that's below average across the board. The blueberry ale Stesti is okay for a light, fruity Spring brew.

Since we're discussing subpar beer I'll say o don't think I've ever been to a place with so many meh breweries then we have in the springs. There's really not one single one that I'd recommend to anyone from out of town for beer. A lot of them are going under now but I guess that's not unique to the springs.

I used to enjoy Rahr's Ugly Pug schwarzbier. Have not had it in probably 10 years though.

That's too bad. I had seen the place when my wife and I were on the way to somewhere else and thought it might be a good place to visit.
