Today's Friday share beers.
The squealer is home made hop water.

Edit: Another showed up.

Accidentally did a three Old Fashioned lunch while enjoying the ocean breeze and looking down at the water from the Elephante. Trying to get my second wind by pounding Plinys at Father's Office.

It's just a lot of watered down ice and syrup

I figured one drink at lunch, but as LA goes our neighbors at the bar were very talkative and engaging people who were in the film industry. Totally worth staying longer.

After a few Pliny I started taking the bartender's recommendations.

Brooklyn Brewery Pulp art because I remember their #1 and #2 bottles being some of the first craft beer I had and liked 15 years ago.

ISM Valve Float just because it was good.

Then a Pliny as a palette cleanser.

Inflations a *****. You could get a pretty solid meal for $14 now it'll get you a can of beer.

D&Q Beer Station in Houston just posted on his Twitter account that they now have Juicy Bits and Extra Extra Juicy Bits from Weldwerks in stock. Wha?!!

I paid roughly the same for beers at Fathers Office today as I did when I lived here 6 years ago.

Fancy beers in a fancy place are going to be expensive.

That didn't take long since the announcement earlier in the week

I feel like beer has a limit though. I don't care how nice or fancy the place is. A draft is a draft. Random ipa even Pliny or juicy bits, low teens is where it should top out.

The difference is, they may have a bomber or what have you, which would be priced double retail, and some of those bombers can be pricey. Look at those Alaskan ones, $100 on a shelf.

So I've def seen $50 bottle of beer at a steakhouse. But it's a $20-$25 bottle on the shelf.

I was at Tower Point earlier this morning and the woman who is the beer and wine assistant didn't know who was distributing them.

Interesting, I lived there just before, during and just after the lockdowns. I seem to recall the prices, while high, not nearly that high, perhaps I'm just misremembering.

On another note I just saw that the original modern times is closing as the switch to contract brewing.

I know I'm quoting myself. I just emailed Weldworks to find out who distributes. I got an almost immediate response back. They are distributed by Dynamo which sadly does not deliver to my area.

Truth is I don't actually know how much my Pliny's were last night, as price isn't a key factor to me. I just looked up their beer list on their website though, and all the draft IPAs are pretty much $9-11 each, which feels pretty good for there.

The two at $14 are 16oz cans, and I get that cans need to be marked up more than draft to maintain profitability due to higher cost of goods.

Grabbed these on my way out of town, and also don't know how much they were.

Love me some fresh Hello LA, certainly worth the price, whatever that might be. I remember them making a pretty kickass DDH pils that was really solid as well.

Burning a day of leave I have to use by the end of the month/**** off friday (credit Jetch) up in Denver. Figure I'd start at hops and pie then dick around at some breweries maybe some I haven't been to yet, any suggestions?

I love hops and pie but post oak bbq is right next door.
Start the day off with a shiner on tap

I do need to give post oak another try. Last time I stopped by there I was underwhelmed. If you're ever down here in the springs for lunch Thursday-Sunday I'd suggest checking out the chuckwagon. They're from Cypress and I'd argue they're making the best BBQ in the state.

Post Oak was the best BBQ I found in Denver, but that really isn't saying much.

Hit Comrade Brewing on your way out of town and grab some crowlers.

One of the places I was happy to see had survived during my sabbatical away from CO. Love me some super power. They often have some pretty solid BBA stuff on tap as well.

Yes, that was Heb at Dezavala and I-10 in SA. The beer manager there is a good guy and will try and bring in whatever new stuff he can. The Boerne Heb beer manger is good too, she also brought in the weldworks.

Good to know about Boerne when I'm visiting the folks there.

Yep. I always hit up Cibolo Creek and Free Roam when I'm visiting.

Boerne has four breweries within a half-mile of each other, three of them right on Main.

Had high hopes for this one. I picked up a couple of them on one of my trips to Tree House Brewery earlier in the summer. I'm going to give it a solid OK. Mild funk, somewhat sour, some fruit in the background. Pretty average overall.
