I know an incoming sophomore for fall 2026. He is on an Army scholarship and will transfer to A&M as part of the PSA program. He knows that he must be part of the Corps of Cadets to be in ROTC - he will be an MSII (if that's still what they call second year ROTC cadets). I believe he will graduate in four years needs to stay on track to commission and graduate. Is there a specific company within the Corps that brings in transfers, or should he just start inquiring with outfits to see what the best fit is?

He is about to connect with recruiters, but this got me curious. No idea how it works for Frogs these days, but I remember commissioning with a few.

It's all based off time to finish degree.

If he will complete all 4 years in the Corps he is not a transfer or frog. His academic hours make no difference.

He will be an academic sophomore and already complete with first year of military science. So, basically three years to graduate after this academic year.

Will he complete 4 years in the Corps? That is the only thing to answer. Academic hours including military science means nothing to the Corps of Cadets.

He can frog into any outfit. He'll be treated like a freshman for a "short"time to learn what his new buddies went through the previous year. He has to learn all the campos and "fish statements" etc. He can be a pisshead in the spring. He will likely be somewhat hidden from the fish that first semester.

There used to be a Frog Camp in the Summer to help prep the Frogs.

Unless something has changed in the last two years, this is not accurate.

The FIRST thing assessed is TIME TO COMPETE DEGREE which is wholly dependent on academic hours completed and accepted by A&M toward his degree..

If it is less than 4 years, he will go to a transfer unit.

At the end of the first semester, he can request a other unit or stay in the transfer unit as an upperclassman.

With very limited exceptions (academy or SMC transfers), everyone does their first semester as a fish regardless of how many hours they have on arrival.

Unless it's changed V1 might be an option to look into.

It just sucks having to drive to campus for early morning PT. No different than living off post in the army though.

Isn't V1 for prior enlisted, not transfer? Or was it both?

Personal opinion, if someone still needs 4 years of A&M for a degree, they should simply come in as a fish and do 4 years with the same class

This is it exactly. If the incoming student must complete 4 years to graduate and wants to be in The Corps, he/she will be a fish no matter how many academic hours. The Corps does not allow a cadet to be a senior for two years.

If the student will graduate in 3 or less then the transfer/frog comes into play.

Agree - entering, he only has three years left starting this fall, will begin second year of ROTC, and set to graduate and commission at the 3rd year. Thanks for all the responses.

It was for Veterans, back before GWOT. Also married students living off campus.

I think I misunderstood, I thought he was a green to gold type, with prior service.
