Trevor Voelkel, A-Batt '02, one year behind me. His oldest brother is Tyson Voelkel, and was Corps Commander in the mid-90s (I can't remember the actual class year). His middle brother is Beau Voelkel '99, and was the Aggie Band CO for a while.

Isn't Tyson Voelkel A&M's only MacArthur Award winner? Yes, I know it's just a write up (I was one of III Corps's nominees as a company commander but didn't win it), but it's fascinating that A&M has produced hundreds or thousands of captains since the award was started and only one recipient. I have two friends from tiny Boston College Army ROTC that won the award

The Task & Purpose channel offers some balanced reporting about military affairs (mostly tactical stuff). The reporter/moderator is a former grunt from the Pennsylvania ARNG (he wears a 28th ID patch in some of his deployment photos) and reminds me of the smart, young, enlisted folks I met in my career.

That new rifle is powerful, no doubt.
But I recall being issued an M-14 back in the day and that sucker was heavy after a while with its 18 rd (never loaded to 20 rds) magazine. The M16A1 was much easier to pack in and out in hot, humid weather. Will the troops love this rifle after a couple of years in service? IDK.

The award was started in 1987 and I'm aware of at least two Aggie recipients, Tyson Voekel '96 and a CT from '99 that branched military police.

A '99 won it? Wonder who that was?
