If you're reading this, congratulations! You've been DA selected to serve as a recruiter. All E5s that successfully complete ARC will be promoted to E6 regardless of promotable status.

Seriously, how bad is the army hurting to pull this?

I hope each branch manager does a damn good job of evaluating each NCO selected for this to ensure turd E-5s are not being selected for recruiting and subsequent promotion.

The Air Force just raised their maximum age to 42 to try to meet their recruiting goals, like just a few days ago.

You know they won't. It's all a numbers game. There was an soldier in my old unit who's been an E5 for all of 4 months who just got selected for recruiter

Thats just great. He will never get a chance to learn his 20 level job and will show back up to the force expected to know both 20 and 30 level skills, which he will not have. I feel for his future Soldiers and leaders, both of whom he will most likely let down.

I was never under the impression that the lack of recruiting was due to too few recruiters... wtf?

The United States Army Recruiting Crisis

Is America Safe If the Army Can't Find Recruits?
Make no mistake, fixing this problem won't be easy nor cheap, but the alternative compromises the security of our nation.
by Thomas Spoehr
As the Army attempts to adjust its structure to a smaller size, some have bemoaned the service's reported decision to reduce special operations force (SOF) units by three thousand soldiers. Shrinking is always hard, and it's hard to argue the utility of SOF across the spectrum of conflict. But these critics are missing the forest for the trees: the reason the Army must reduce its force structure is because they are losing the existential fight to recruit new soldiers. In 2021 the Army was authorized 485,900 active-duty soldiers. Today that number is 452,000, a drop of 33,900 and in fiscal year 2023 the Army was unable to recruit the necessary number of volunteers to maintain even that reduced size. So, policymaker's focus shouldn't be on a relatively small cut to Army SOF, what they should be focusing on instead is helping the Army (and other military services) deal with a manpower crisis with no end in sight……

…….Because the bottom [has] literally fallen out of the high school graduate recruiting market, reportedly especially among white males, a traditional core constituent of Army recruiting…

US Army Shrinks to Smallest Size Since WW2 as It Struggles to Find Recruits

Quote:

"The size of the U.S. Army is reportedly the smallest since World War II as the service continues to struggle to recruit new soldiers.

Army officials announced on Tuesday that the service had recruited almost 55,000 recruits in the 2023 fiscal year, which ended Saturday, falling short of the publicly stated goal of 65,000. The number of new recruits allows the service to meet its required total strength of 452,000 active-duty soldiers.

But the independent news group Military Times says that this is the smallest the Army has been since 1940. There were just over 269,000 soldiers in 1940, but that number ballooned to almost 1.5 million in 1941, the year the U.S. entered the World War II, according to the National WWII Museum's website. …"

Short Of 10,000 Recruits, US Army Recalls Soldiers 'Kicked Out' For Refusing COVID-19 Vaccine
Quote:

By Ritu Sharma -November 23, 2023

"As conflict rages across the globe, the US Army struggles to recruit people in its rank and file. After falling 10,000 short of its recruitment goal of 65,000 recruits in 2023, the US Army is recalling soldiers who were earlier kicked out for refusing the COVID-19 vaccine.

It has been the only time in history when the US Army reversed a vaccine requirement. After the service failed to meet its recruiting targets for two consecutive fiscal years, its strength fell from an original level of 485,000 in late 2021 to around 452,000 active-duty soldiers in 2023. It is the lowest full-time force size since 1940, before the US entered World War II.

The US Army's woes don't seem to be getting better. For example, in 2022, the US Army missed its recruiting goal by about 15,000 soldiers or by 25 percent. In 2023, the Army recruited only 55,000 recruits by October instead of the 65,000 it aimed for. And, 4,600 of those recruited in 2023 have been put into the service's delayed entry pool, held in reserve for what's expected to be another tough recruiting year in 2024."

"Conservative commentators have claimed a new U.S. Army recruitment ad, which predominantly features white men, is a reaction to "15 years of relentless progressive brainwashing" and is a sign that "we are definitely going to war."

The 30-second ad depicts a group of soldiers jumping from a Chinook helicopter and parachuting to the ground, together with the captions "Your greatest victories are never achieved alone" and "Be all you can be.""

Army to slash thousands of jobs in major revamp for future wars
By Lolita C. Baldor, The Associated Press Feb 27, 10:44 AM

The U.S. Army is slashing the size of its force by about 24,000, or almost 5%, and restructuring to be better able to fight the next major war, as the service struggles with recruiting shortfalls that made it impossible to bring in enough soldiers to fill all the jobs......

....Instead, the decision reflects the reality that for years the Army hasn't been able to fill thousands of empty posts. While the Army as it's currently structured can have up to 494,000 soldiers, the total number of active-duty soldiers right now is about 445,000. Under the new plan, the goal is to bring in enough troops over the next five years to reach a level of 470,000.....

.....Over time the military's focus has shifted to great power competition from adversaries such as China and Russia, and threats from Iran and North Korea. And the war in Ukraine has shown the need for greater emphasis on air-defense systems and high-tech abilities both to use and counter airborne and sea-based drones.....

"The Navy announced this month it missed its recruitment goals for active duty enlisted sailors by more than 7,450 accessions in FY23."

So what does the Navy do in FY24? They create a new robotics warfare specialist rating that takes bodies away from other critical ratings to form this new rate in addition to the A-School, training and admin tail of it.

Hurting on recruiting and retention, so let's spread the force thinner and not focus on getting our current jobs manned up.

I watched the army pull some of the best combat arms SSGs to be recruiters a couple decades ago. They belonged on the tanks, not a recruiting station.
