The uniform you wore as a cadet is presented as "historical". And I refer to the young lady to the left, I'm not old enough for either of the other two, despite what the kids on here ight think.

Aug. 21st will be 35 years since I showed up on campus. August 27th will be the 35th anniversary of my first 8 o'clock drill at the New Jersey Meadowlands.

We closed out the pickle suits and switched to BDUs after my sophomore year.
Never got to wear a Ridgeway.
Did shine the heck outta some jump boots though.

Later, I took my old jump boots to Chung's off post at Fort Knox and had them converted to Tanker boots.

The Nebraska game. The Kickoff Classic. I was there but. I had to leave the game early to go to work. Just down the road at Newark Airpot. I flew you guys back to Easterwood on my Continental 727. Talk about a LONG night. We dropped you guys off and flew all the way back to Newark. I didn't get home until about noon. We had 2 727s. Major Haney was on my plane. I had a real nice chat with him.

It's a small Aggie world aint it?

I miss seeing the real drill field uniform. Green fatigue pants, combat boots and white t-shirt.

Funny story about that weekend. I kew the Aggies were coming to my neck of the woods. On Friday night, we drove to NYC for Midnight Yell. I took my neighbors, they knew nothing about A&M. We had a blast. So the next day I'm on "Reserve". You have to be phone available during a certain period. They usually called you for a trip assignment the next day, however, they could "short call" and you had 3 hours to get to the airport and go. So I always had a bag packed and a uniform ready. Now remember, nobody had cell phones in 1988, I had a beeper. If it went off I went to a pay phone and called scheduling.
I figured if they hadn't called me by 1500, I was good to go to the game. Our last departure on a Saturday night was around 2030, so things were looking good. It's 1530, I'm about to leave for the Meadowland to tailgate with my dad and my brother, and the phone rings...."Ohh sh*t...here it comes"
the conversation went like this.
Me "Hello"
CAL " uhh First Officer Jones, we have a trip assignment for you tonight"
Me (totally pissed off) " Okay, what time"
CAL "well sir...we want you to show at 2200, but we don't know what time you will depart"
Me " 2200!!!! Well where in the hell am I going?"
CAL " uhh...College Station, Texas sir"
Me " College Station, Texas!!??? WTF!!..we don't have any directs from Newark to College Station. Who am I flying?"
CAL " The Texas A&M Band"
Me. " The Fightin Texas Aggie Band!!!!....Holy Sh*t....sign me up!"

CAL Scheduling was in Houston. You got to know the schedulers over the phone. One of the schedulers , a real nice gal, was an Aggie, and she knew I was an Aggie. She saw the trip on the screen, looked at the list of Reserve pilots in Newark that day, saw my name, and said " Call this guy...he'll LOVE it!"

I had a great airline career, flew all over the world. Flying the FTAB was one of my fondest memories. We're talking some seriously GOOD BULL!

He was 17 and the youngest Marine there. ( he spent 22 years in USMC Air)

But they also honored the oldest Marine there. and guess who showed up?

Pinky Wilson....the guy who composed the Aggie War Hymn....

And I have the receipt .....Check out page 70 of the 2021 Corps of Cadets Directory.

Class of 2027 starts this fall, 50 years after I did.

Class of 1927 started 50 years before me.

First students at A&M started 47 years before them.

So, when you were a fish, WWI was as far in the past to you as the Viet-Nam War is to today's students.

I do those all the time. Dad was born 11 years after WWI. Me, 10 years after WWII, Son, 11 years after Vietnam. Grandson 7 years after Iraq war.

WWII will be almost as remote to my grandkids, as the Civil War was to me.

Oldest Ag I have ever had the opportunity to meet was Dr. Sam Houston Sanders '22 at a 12th Man Kick Off Team function in 1984. He was on the Aggie team that won the 1922 Dixie Classic. He was one of the players that got hurt in the first half that caused Bible to send for Gill out of the stands..

My granddad, my mother's father, spent most of his working life with the VA. He loved working with Spanish-American War vets, because they called him sonny. When he left his Iowa farm town to go off to the Army, he got the business from Civil War vets.
