This is bull butter if true. I've been all about growing the Corps, but if they just opt out of a gameday tradition that's not on a holiday, that is a pathetic excuse for retention and recruiting.

Tarleton State brought their Corps back, and I'd just as soon become a fan of the Texans. This is damn near turn in Aggie Ring kind of antics. Also, this is coming from someone who was proud to see a female cadet wearing a hijab. Don't care the gender, color, or nationality so long as they're in the Corps and want to be a part of March-ins, etc.

I have been searching for March in information this week, and I am beyond disappointed to hear this. I know the old commandant would scope these boards out and respond. Don't know if the new commandant will do the same, but this feels like this rumor should be addressed by a leader.

I'm in the Old CT category H-2/'73. We marched in on Thanksgiving BC the game was played on Thanksgiving, we also didn't come back until Sunday BC they closed the mess halls. The FTAB is there for halftime, I have no idea how they feed them. And you guys do know that every class decries the loss of Old Army, right? For me it died when they put in a buffet line in Duncan. But I'm just a cranky old guy, what do I know.

tu game was mandatory (I believe) or when I was there (2000-2004). Game was the day after Thanksgiving so we either got ourselves to Austin for the March down Congress Avenue or back to College Station for yell practice thanksgiving night. I do think if you lived far away you could be excused but the few out of state buddies I remember, I don't think anyone took this opportunity.

ETA my wife met me for the first time, thanksgiving night 2003 at the Texas Hall of Fame after yell practice. Buddies and I went out just like normal and the Hall was open. I say she met me because….I wasn't in the best frame of mind… that night. I remember meeting her two months later right before Valentine's Day 2004.

This will not end well for the new commandant. Hope he has his staff ready to respond to lots of angry emails/ phone calls.

Edit to say that this was decided before new commandant. I'm sure his phone/ email has been hot dealing with someone else's decision.

I was hoping Gen. Ramirez would chime in on this thread as he has done in the past. Not his corps anymore but I would appreciate a little transparency.

Just heard that this call may have been made very early in the year, well before the commandant. So who knows what the case is.

There are only so many opportunities to do the things that wind up making memories for you. March In for a home game was a time honored tradition for so many decades. The change over the last few years to wander around campus instead of into Kyle Field was stupid. Passing by the crowds on Joe Routt, going around the track was a great tradition for the Corps, each time. Photo moments, names getting announced, the whole thing. In my era the Band was out in the middle of the field, playing marches or beating cadence. Before the Jumobtron and the WWF stuff took over. Seems like every year more of what made an A&M home game special gets wattered down or done away with. When you turn into everybody else you are only them. Not you anymore.

Kids are resilient and adapt to what they have to. They don't know better. 1/3 of them come from greater Houston area anyway and within 100 miles of home. 95% of the Corps is from Texas and being back on campus for a Saturday night game is no different than going home for a normal weekend during the school year. You take your out of state bud home with you for the turkey and see Mom over Thu/Fri. WTF? The new Commandant knows first hand what March In was and should be. Fix this for next year. You want the 3000? I am just one of many, many CCA/TABA guys out there. Do the right thing.

Its been a while since I've posted anything here, but I got alerted to the fact that there was concern about the Corps not marching in today, and thought I needed to at least let everyone know why that decision was made.

First, this decision was made before the new Commandant arrived in October, so this is in NO way his issue. He had absolutely no say in this decision at all. This decision was made several years ago, when the A&M - LSU game was moved from Thanksgiving day to the Saturday after Thanksgiving.

As many of us experienced, we always played tu on Thanksgiving day, and the entire Corps was here for the march-in and the game. Even when the game was played in Austin on Thanksgiving, the entire Corps marched in to downtown Austin for the game. It was what we all remembered and experienced during our time in the Corps when we played tu every year. It was tradition.

When we moved to the SEC and no longer played tu, we began playing LSU on Thanksgiving day, and the march-in remained the same for the game when we played at Kyle Field. However, after a few years, LSU no longer wanted to play the game on Thanksgiving day, and wanted the game moved to the Saturday after Thanksgiving. When the game got moved to Saturday instead of Thanksgiving day, we had to make a decision about whether or not we wanted to bring back the entire Corps for a march-in and to attend the game or just make it optional for the cadets to return from their Thanksgiving weekend to attend the game. The Aggie Band would still return for their halftime performance, as always.

As I remember it, after a lot of discussion with cadets and staff, we made the decision to make the LSU game played on the Saturday after Thanksgiving at Kyle Field optional for cadets to attend, with no march in. Cadets who returned to attend the game had to attend in uniform, but we decided not to make it mandatory for all cadets to return for the march in or the game. Its been that way since the game moved to the Saturday after Thanksgiving, which has been a few years now.

So thats the reason why you will not see a march in today. Again, the new Commandant had no say in this decision - it was made several years ago before he even got here. While I know there are many who don't like the decision, you at least know now why it was made - and I can assure you it was NOT an easy decision to make for any of us, but was made with several factors to consider.

For what its worth, the new Commandant, BG Michaelis, has made it very clear that he is open to listening to your comments and concerns about the Corps. If you feel strongly about this matter, or any other matter concerning the Corps, I recommend you contact him and let him know your thoughts. I know that he is willing to listen and consider all thoughts and opinions about the Corps - especially if they are articulated to him in a mature, professional manner.

I hope this helps set the record straight about why there will be no march in today. Thanks for your love and support of our Corps. And Beat the HELL Outta LSU!

So this all because the game is on Saturday. There was no issue with March in when I was in school and we played the sips on Friday.

In 1984 we played tcu on the Saturday after Thanksgiving.

The band stayed on campus to practice our halftime drill, and then on GameDay we led the Corps into Kyle for the last marching of 1984.

There was only one option for cadets and that was to be on campus on Saturday for the game day activities

Sounds like you're in the know. As others have said, it really boils down to what makes us A&M. The excuse you give is not solid, as others have pointed out that they've been part of or seen marchins on Friday after Thanksgiving or on Thanksgiving. I get it that some cadets might have traveled too long of distances, so of course they'd be dismissed.

Another vignette that I'll share. After the South Carolina game last year, there were 3 or 4 fish wh didn't go to the track to celebrate the victory. Side note, I'm glad that Corps block is broken up, as these seats were in the upper deck of the south end zone. The fish just sat there after a shellacking the Aggies gave the gamecocks. I asked the fish why they didn't go down, and one of them said his ankle was hurt. The others didn't have an excuse, and sounded like they didn't want to go. I just made the statement to them that there weren't many more opportunities for them to go to the field and escort the yell leaders off the field.

I saw the senior yell leader from last night make the statement that he was not going to apologize for anything done in the name of an Aggie tradition. If these fish didn't want to be a part of a tradition, then that's on them. It's a small thing, but these small things lead to big things. Now we won't have a staple of an Aggie game day. It might not have been the commandant's call, but it was someone's call? So who made the call? Also, it's not like this couldn't have been undone in September or October.

The bottom line is that this was a mistake to not have it. This is one of many things that sets A&M apart.

Not to add fuel to the fire, but a cadet just told me a bunch of cadets don't even plan to wear uniforms to the game tonight. Something about no one in Corps leadership putting out what the required uniform is for the game.

March to 3000 is well on its way!

Gotta make the Corps life more 21st century friendly
No march ins, wearing non regs to games, making decisions based on 4 day weekends; its all good

I simply can not fathom not marching into Kyle field the last home football game of my zip year. I get the Qs are there but if I was a CT and couldn't step off from the quad for the last time I'd be ducking pissed. Unless they don't care. I dunno. I'm old and on the way to getting drunk because I know how the games gonna play out.

Not attending or marching in is new. My class of '19 had to be back for the game and march-in. His outfit did a Thanksgiving potluck for those not going home at all. Brass culmination was Wednesday so it was hard for any that lived any distance.

I played in the stands to an empty Kyle for all our march-ins. I think parents were there only people in the stands.

I liked the change to do different march-in routes through campus. It involves other areas of the tailgating crowds. Plus it's probably fun to march in formation to new areas of campus past buildings your don't normally pass
Plus the change to SEC doesn't allow fans to enter, leave, and re-enter the stadium like parents used to be able to do for march in. I can't confirm, but I bet it was even more empty during SEC march-ins.

But yeah, not doing march-in for a home game is ridiculous. Good thing the BQs are there to pick up the slack like always

Last night was a chance to make memories of a lifetime. I still remember beating tu as a fish fall of '93 on Thanksgiving night. That the Corps wasn't a part of tonight in it's entirety is disappointing and I hope that can be fixed before 2024.

There were a lot of cadets present at the game and they looked good in full A's. Being there with your entire class and having the whole Corps present would have been better.

fish were lined up to tackle the yell leaders but then the field storming happened and they all just sort of stood there and watched for a bit and then went and joined in on the fun.

Didn't miss a second of it. Thanks for checking up. Overall the nights was a rousing success. Beer, whiskey, food, fire pit going, Ags win. Hell of a night with other Ags in the neighborhood.
