What rifles do they use??
Certainly possible. The FDT was very good, but not infallible. I recall that whatever national competition they went to, they won almost every year.Quote:
claimed they beat the FDT one year

I always thought they use de-milled 1903 Springfields. An actual drill d will be by shortly to tell you
…….and those other teams also mostly use custom-made drill rifles which are lightweight and finely balanced.CanyonAg77 said:Certainly possible. The FDT was very good, but not infallible. I recall that whatever national competition they went to, they won almost every year.Quote:

The difference, obviously, is that most drill teams were four year teams. The fish were beating teams with members with 2-4 years experience.
It's the Springfield 1903 A3.CanyonAg77 said:
M1 Garand, not bolt action, repeating rifle, weighs 9.5 to 11.6 pounds
1903 Springfield, weighs 8.7 pounds (not significantly different), bolt action
Looks more like the Springfield to me
They currently use M-14's on their firing squad.CanyonAg77 said:
FDT, supposedly in 1949, apparently with Garands
FDT, also supposedly in 1949, with Springfields?
RVs 1961, Garands

Used M-14s in FTXs '82-'86. Very restrictive with ammo. Advisors traded cases of beer to National Guard for 7.62 blanks during an exercise one time.CanyonAg77 said:
In looking for the photos above, it appears cadets used a bunch of different rifles through the years. Would be fascinating to see a history of what arms were on campus and when

Howdy! I am a current sophomore advisor on the team. We use the 1903 Springfields, and I'm sure it's been that way for quite a while but I'm not sure when they made the switch.

P.S. Care to guess who they really are in this scene? Hint: The USMC Silent Drill Team uses Garands. A Few Good Men
Which is his point. They are 03s, since those are the FDT, not MarinesTexarkanaag69 said:In AFGM those ain't Garands.74OA said:…….and those other teams also mostly use custom-made drill rifles which are lightweight and finely balanced.CanyonAg77 said:Certainly possible. They did beat A&M one year, I do not remember the year, but the UTA team had been together for about four years.PermianAg said:
Father in law was on a drill team with UTA back in the 70's.... claimed they beat the FDT one year... anyhow he was saying they used to use M1's which are heavier and make more noise. He asked me what the FDT use now a days and i have no clue. I was in the Corps in the mid 90's but wasn't on the FDT so have no clue.
