Nukes aren't sitting around with a big ON/OFF switch that's always "ON". They use PALs (Permissive Action Links) that are the coded arming mechanisms. The only way to know that the PAL was shut off, was to try and arm every nuclear weapon. Which you would not do unless going to war.

Back at a previous job as a hospital nurse, I took care of a patient who (claimed to be) a retired Air Force Major. He told a very similar story. Back in the 60s or 70s, while working at a base that housed nukes, a swarm of UFOs hovered over the base and were able to disable the launch systems of whatever nukes they had there. Didn't go into much detail, but he said there are reports that it happened multiple times at multiple places and they seemed to show up where the nukes were.

Still have no idea what to think about it. He could've been making it all up, or gotten it from something he saw on TV. But it does align with some of the things that have been out there in the media recently.

I've read the book referenced, Command and Control. I seem to recall it had some inaccuracies.

But the article confirms my assertion, actually. Note that there were four switches that had to trip to make the bomb go critical. Only three of them tripped. So see, not one single on/off switch.



Besides, the safety systems have come a long way in the past 60 years. If you ever go to Albuquerque, the National Nuclear Museum has a great display of the evolution of the Permissive Action Links, as well as examples of the various switches used to keep a weapon from detonating unless you want it to.

For instance, you might have switches that read G forces, or an altimeter, or drag parachute deployment, etc.

And thanks for the kind words. I want to emphasize that I am simply a buff, and never worked in the weapons complex. But the wife does, and that's afforded me opportunity to travel to a lot of museums adjacent to weapons facilities. And, of course, that's all I get from her. Even when I learn something about the recent weapons, I get a shrug and no comment.

But we do have some surplus bomb parts in the garage, so that's cool.

Why the push back?

Low tolerance for bulls**t, don't believe randos who sell sensational videos to TV, a lifetime of working outdoors, being extremely interested is air and space, never saw something unexplainable, nor read a report that was verifiable.

Well, I did see some parachute flares at Ft. Hood once, and it was a few years before I saw a firepower demo and figured out what it was.

haha thanks Canyon...clearly a typo thanks

And yes these incidents really did occur. Not sure what else to say. At this point.. I am curious what aspect of these events is most disturbing..the simple presence of UFOs during these disruptions. The fact they they were rendered unlaunchable? Maybe the notion that we are somewhat valued by others or at least this planet is? The exact opposite occurred at the Russian sites. Several were flipped into launch mode...that got their attention pretty quickly I've read.
