Former Green Beret, Jason McCarthy, started a company called Goruck. From this he has developed Goruck Challenges across the US. Goruck Challenge is coming to College Station in September. I've reached out to the Corps to see if they'd be interested, but I didn't get the warmest reception.

Under promise, over deliver, 8-10 hours, 15-20 miles and a lot of beer is a rough guideline for a GORUCK Challenge. If you're ex-Corps, ex-military, police, EMT's, crossfitter, Tough Mudders, long distance runner... overall adrenaline junkies; then this would be your calling.

There is nothing in it for me, just a former student that found something that's sadistically hard, but fun. They've had a class at the Citadel, and I thought this forum would be appropriate to spread the word on for the Corps/A&M. Tonight in Houston will be my third.
For cadres, I've had army, green beret, and a recon marine. They give you a taste of what their daily regiment in training was like.

Embrace the suck. Good livin'.

...a lot of beer

Asked and answered. You are aware that the vast majority of cadets are below legal drinking age?

Yea, but surely a few outfits might band together for this. September is a long time from now for them to really schedule anything.

Also if it lands on the weekend of a home game that would kill Corps attendance.

Not to really defend them, I'll agree most are lazy. Hopefully a couple hundred would be redass enough to go for it.

The Corps is like high school. If the nerds (Corps Staff) do something, it instantly becomes uncool. If the cool kids (seniors) do something, underclassmen (fish and heads) are gonna try and emulate them.

Also, first free weekend of the fall with not garner much involvement since almost everyone wants to go home that weekend.

So the trick is finding something a free weekend, that isn't close to too many exams, that isn't the first free weekend of the month, and offer some sort of motivation for the whitebelts that they can't refuse. My suggestion would be a bag-in of sometype.

IF you want to round up some participants for this, contact SSG David Parnell, the FRNCO for HHT 1-112 CAV, the NG unit in Bryan. He might be interested, and can round up a few like-minded souls.

Went to grad school with Jason and the GORUCK team. Great people, great products, and great challenge. If you want corps folks reach out to SEAL Platoon or Recon.

The beer part is just an option (figure juniors/seniors would be enticed by that). I was never in the Corps or military, so please excuse my lack of understanding to any of your jargon. I'll try to contact more people.

We play Arkansas that weekend in Arlington or CS. There are 2 classes. One at 1am (1 hour after midnight yell) and one at 10pm (after the game). It's not like the Corps is unfamiliar with a lack of sleep anyways. classes are capped at 30 total.

As far as cool/uncool goes...Rule #1: always look cool. Rule #2: if you get lost, refer to rule #1.

@Malibu: great to hear. GORUCK is definitely something I believe in. Lots of similarities to A&M values and traditions. I look forward to having Jason as a cadre if I do Goruck Munich and/or Paris.

not to get all salesman like, but message me for $20 off. Within a few days after completing a challenge, you get 15% all Goruck gear.
