If you would hesitate to show it to any of the above, perhaps you should re-think having it on the Internet accessible to the world.

There are actually A LOT of people that think the video is very funny and entertaining, you are the minority that does not approve.

As for showing the Corps in a bad way, trust me when I say that there are many more things that truly show the Corps in poor light.

EGA, thank you for seeing the point of all this. Everyone on the Quad right now loves the video, it is a joke and is meant to be taken as a joke. Much like the video you posted, you cant be serious and uptight all the time. I just wish these cranky old ags could appreciate it like you do.

Im a current cadet and just want your (emotionless) analysis of this song/video. No respect/disrespect issues here, just the questions.

I'm pretty sure that everybody that frequents this forum probably got a kick out of that video. I also feel like a good number think it shouldn't be on youtube, because there's a good chance that some t-sip will get bored youtube corps of cadets, and guess what? Corps of Cadets is a tag for this. They'll take it straight to horn fans and talk about how it portrays the corps. I think it's hilarious, and I think in an e-mail, private corps facebook group etc., it would be great, but not on this open of a forum. As for EGA's post: hilarious too, but I think people, on the whole, are a little more understanding and less antagonistic of active duty, forward-deployed military than they are of what they might call "play military".

I think jacobz2112 is the maker of the video. The username of the youtube page that it was posted on is jakep2112. I don't think 2112 is a popular set of numbers.

I have met Hayden Smith many times and he seems like a great guy.

Just take the "peeing in the sink" part out of the video & it should be good to go. Probably not something we'd want the prospects seeing prior to their decision on whether or not they want to join the Corps (or in particular A-2). Gig 'em!

Why would they not make the corps dorms like actual enlisted barracks? By that, I mean two rooms adjoined by one stall. I guess it's cheaper to have community toilets and showers.

Remember that those "barracks" aka. "The Quad" aka. "The New Area" were built in the late 1930s. What you're suggesting would be a lot more than just turning the south end of the 4th floor of Dorm 11 into dorm rooms and getting rid of the band room It would require a lot more work than just putting partitions up in the bathrooms to make them suitable for female cadets.

And my last trip to any enlisted barracks (granted we're talking 12-20 years ago), they still had the open crappers and the World War II era bays. Nothing quite like that 5 commode "L" shape action where the guys in the corner of the "L" can rub elbows while taking care of business.

Hollywood, just wait till you go out to 29 Palms and have to sit back to back while taking a constitutional.

I don't think cost was the issue here. If I'm not mistaken they were purposely left off the plans (assuming these are the same plans) by the last commandant because there "certain opportunities for growth" that come with community latrines, as he put it.

My guys back at Joint Base Lewis McChord were living in barracks very similar to Corps Dorms. 1st floor was all offices and meeting rooms, 2nd and 3rd were rooms and 2 community latrines and one common laundry room per floor. At least they were nice to come in in 2009 before we deployed to remove asbestos in the stairwells.

Part of the reason they are still community is because the we voted the the adjoining bathrooms down. From my memory of the meeting I was in was that we were not in favor of a pisshead and fish potentially sharing that common space.

Aggies Revenge - you just reminded me about one of the grossest things I've ever seen (or smelled) and that's a full porto-can. You have to ask yourself, who was the guy who said, you know what, I think there's just enough room on top for my duty.

And as far as the back to back action, they have that at Philmont Scout Ranch. It was so funny that when I was in Boy Scouts, we took pictures of it (as I recall).

Haha, yes. I remember on top of Mt. Philips. Most scout latrines, at least the covered ones, are pilot/copilot latines. The back to back ones we called the pilot to bombadier latrines.

And, as a former Corps guy, Letterman in track while living in Dorm 7 in the New Corps area (G-1, Shumaker in 1961), General Moore winner, subsequent Bull in the TRIGON, and retired AF Officer, I see nothing wrong with it - and in fact, believe it could be used as a Corps recruiting tool.

I didn't get that connection you mentioned.
Peeing in the sink is a ritual for corps fish to avoid being harrassed by upperclassmen outside their room... It's "always been that way as far as I know"... Nothing nasty about it if you know all about pee...

12 years ago, in Korea, my Soldiers lived in better housing than I did. (I lived, as a Lieutenant, in a soon-to-be condemned Quansit Hut with community stalls, sinks, and showers where the power went out every weekend)

Aggie1 - some rituals should be left unspoken.

But... since we're on the subject. Some of those activities take place at other schools. But, people who didn't go to those schools won't understand it and won't know what to make of it when they see it.

A bunch of us Armor 2LTs from Fort Knox were out at some dingy establishment which didn't even pretend to be The Spearmint Rhino.

Anyway, it was all sausage in there and the place had limited facilities. So, I was joking with another guy who went to VMI about what you do when you've got limited options in your dorm.

Next thing I know, VMI guy is executing that mission. I chuckled, because he really did it. Mr. Frat Daddy from Louisiana Tech wouldn't/couldn't leave it alone. He was seriously freaked out and felt the need to blab to the other 10 or so 2LTs in the place about what had gone down in the Gents.

Me and VMI guy were the only two who had any business sharing that secret. And, it should have remained that way. Same goes for some of this nonsense. Just because every jackhole has a digital camera and access to the Internet doesn't mean they should blab everything to everybody. Especially to people who haven't earned it.

By the way, I'm glad to see you included Arabia on your list of "A" places. That means you were there before my time. Things must have been pretty colorful then. Not to say that things were dull during my era in The Kingdom.
