I did my best to avoid the skunk stripe but got smoked for it all the time. What a horrible haircut.

I wonder what the reason is for changing this. i would like to hear the logic behind it.
FYI, we called it the birth control cut.

Not a fan of this. I had 5 finger whitewalls with a 4 on top Zip year. Hopefully the fish won't get in trouble if they "choose" to get better haircuts on their own.

You were probably a b-co tool, and probably a tool in the air force.

^^LOL! Although I had a pretty squared away cut, even as a zip too. White walls before every marchin.

Even though I'm not familiar with the Commandant's reasoning, if you look at the evolution of how fish have been treated by upperclassmen (in public) over the years it has changed quite a bit. My understanding is that during the 60's fish were essentially pissheads during game weekends and marchins, and any time when they were in the presence of family.

Now, we often use fish as tools of amusement. Which is fine among other cadets (provided everything falls within ethical boundaries and all that), but sometimes upperclassmen have fish do stupid stuff in front of non-regs to get the non-regs to laugh. Perfect example: Batt fish. For those that don't know what it is, fish are told to dress up as batman and robin and run to get battalions in the morning while singing the batman tune. Fish often put underwear on over their sweatpants, wear masks, dress up in different ways, and just look dumb and go perform this detail. In the process, they run to the arches to pick up the Batts, where every non-reg on South side can see them. And then if there aren't any Batts at the arches they run to Heldenfels, or the Commons, or other buildings on campus dressed like that.

It would be one thing to do it in the 60's, when it was only cadets on campus, but now I think it is just degrading (even though the fish don't know any better and mostly think it's good bull), and it further enhances the idea that the Corps is just a bunch of guys that like to pick on freshmen to feel better about themselves.

So, back to my point about the hair cut: It really only makes most of the fish look incredibly awkward - especially walking around with tshirts tucked into their jeans, wearing tennis shoes and long socks. I think fish need to be professional/good looking out of uniform so that they can impress the girls on campus, and those girls can tell their younger brothers/cousins/sisters to join the Corps.

I agree with you. I hated looking like a tool when I had to go out in civilian clothing. I always took a backpack with me so that I could change in my car or else where.

I also agree with you, that some of the stuff we do like batt fish needs to go away. It does nothing except making fish look like fools in the morning as non-regs go to class.

If you read various threads around Texags, you'll see that some of the non-reg posters say that cadets look like dorks. Fish cuts, and super tight tucked shirts looks dorkey as hell. In the process of trying to be "hard" cadets find a ways to be stupid about things.

In my outfit we only had to have shirts tucked in and long socks etc when we were on the dorms or on the quad. Once we went through the arches we were clear.

When ADjr came home about the 6th week of his fish year, we went to a local eatery and an older gentleman came up to ADjr, who was in civilian clothes, stuck out his hand and said "John Doe class of '56". The fish cut was well recognized.

There were no fish cuts in my time. One standard for everyone, and it wasn't high & tight.

I think the definition of high and tight has changed since the 60's. When I think of high & tight I think of a fish cut (2 on top, 5 finger whitewalls) to a pisshead cut (4 on top, 4 finger whitewalls).

But when I look at pictures and video of the 60's and 70's, I see virtually no white walls, most people have around a 2 on the sides, and a decent amount have enough hair on top to easily come to the side.

I'm a B-Co StreetFighter and I can say that in my era, we all took ARMY contracts. The D&C guys didn't even have the stones to go USAF. With one exception. One of my buddies enlisted USMC and became a K-9 officer.

The B-Co distinction reminds me of a chill-out session we were having with one of the Class of '90 section leaders (from B-Battery who would later be caught rollerblading nude at Post Oak Mall by CSPD) who was describing to us what the 2nd semester of our fish year would be like without football games to march at.

He said - well, if you're in B-Company, you'll continue to do PT. I wanted to cry. Glad it all worked out now.

I have no love for B-Co, but that's way out of line and no way to talk to a junior officer, whether you outrank him or not.

I was a fish last year and we had a 5x2 haircut first semester and depending on your outfit, most fish had 4x4 haircuts second semester while the rest had 5x2 haircuts.

Corps contract cadet 70-74 here. Whitewalls non-existent. Tapered quarter to half-inch hair on sides and combable-length hair on top was the norm for all four classes after first-semester fish buzz-cut.

If you think Old Army has anything to do with haircuts then you're just New Army.

Someone please explain the 2nd number in the examples below.
I understand the first numbers are 4 finger & 3 finger white walls.
The last number is in reference to what???

fish: 4x4
PH: 4x6
Butts: 3x6
