I agree with AggieInfantry, I would want to know who I am talking to. Back in old/ancient days, all variations of officer uniforms had branch insignia on them. I think a simple solution would be to incorporate branch color into the shoulder tab ranks, similar to shoulder straps on Blues. Every branch has a color/pattern combo already. They have already changed them from the original 'green' configuration to the current 'black' one. Another change would not be that much of a big deal but adding the color would solve the problem. In my later years on the few times I had to wear the current B uniform I left badges/ribbons off; felt them not necessary for that type of uniform. Never was comfortable with the lack of a branch identification, though.
I was lucky to retire before the ACU so I didn't have to deal with that situation. Officers need branch insignia on uniforms. NCO's have a different pecking order and MOS is not as important in that world as the actual rank. No disrespect intended at all to NCO's; they are the backbone of the military but this is an officer specific deal. If I wandered into a Division Main and was in the G3 shop I want to know what flavor I am dealing with. I just find it weird to see current Army officers wandering around without branch ID.
New guys don't miss what they never had. Kinda like good/dominant Aggie football teams who rarely lose at Kyle Field.
