Just had a friend get engaged and she is looking for wedding venues in and around SATX. She is from there but lives in College Station currently, so we were looking for recommendations that she may not have thought of.

What kind of taste do they have? Want more rustic? Or uptown? Country Club?

Looking for an all in one? Or a place to bring your own vendors?

Budget is also a big factor. We found some fantastic places just outside SA in the hill country but most were a little more than we wanted to spend.

The Grand Hall at Hoffman Ranch.

In Castroville, owners are great and the place is beautiful!

Check out the McNay art museum. It costs about $3500 to rent on a Saturday. It is in Alamo Heights, about 1 mile from 281 and Hildebrand and Incarnate Word Church

Boulder Springs west of New Braunfels.

I second Boulder Springs. Great venue & location out in the Hill Country. Only downside is there isn't a hotel close by.

If you are going to do it, do it right. Koscuisko Hall with Outlaw Catering (the guys from Poth & Floresville - not San Antonio).

A good friend of mine owns Lambermont on Grayson. Pat and Dona Liston. Pat is class of 84.

About 5k for the weekend and it includes several suites.

It is a beautiful site. Built in 1896 or so with 18 inch limestone walls.

Had our reception out in St. Hedwig at the American Legion Hall. Great if you want country and not that far from the city. Also went to a reception at Anhalt in Spring Branch and that was very neat. Just depends on what type of reception you want. If country/rustic then I would definitely look at the small communities outside of San Antonio.

She is looking for something close to hotel accommodations, maybe something a little outside the box/unique (weddings aren't necessarily their main gig), and an absolute max budget of 5k for the rental.

They would like the venue to be for the ceremony and reception.

The Little Church in La Villita?
If Catholic, the Missions were very affordable for weddings when my brother got married. (There is a longer wait though)

Check out the Southwest School of Arts and Crafts. Old convent on the riverwalk.

Kendall Plantation. Got married there and have been to some other weddings out there. Great place

Bella Springs is pretty neat too, more of a rustic feel.

Agree with the recommendation of The Grand Hall at Hoffman Ranch out near Castroville. It is a very nice place and has an outdoor gazebo that is used for wedding ceremonies.

Rent for the hall should be under $5K. The owner has a list of caterers they recommend. Not sure if you can bring in your own caterer.
