16 new ambulances unveiled by the San Antonio Fire Department include a function which is a necessity for the modern era---they are built to easily accommodate obese people.
Fire Chief Charles Hood says the ambulances are equipped to better deal with patients in excess of 400 pounds.
Hood says not only will the ambulances handle larger patients, it will be safer for the paramedics who move them as well.
"We get a lot of paramedics who are injured, either lifting of stepping off of a curb. So to have lights around the vehicle will be a great enhancement. We have purchased power stretchers that can accommodate up to 750 pounds."

Port San Antonio bans food truck because of offensive name
quote:
To the owner of local food truck CockAsian, it's a clever spin on the Korean Fried Chicken that is the truck's most popular dish. But for Port San Antonio officials, it's an offensive and risqué name for a restaurant on wheels that is now banned from the 1,900-acre site in West San Antonio.
Candie Yoder, 40, who opened the food truck in November, said the name has “boundless meanings, none of which are sexual or a racial slur… I would be more than happy to discuss the basis for our name with them.”
But Port San Antonio officials didn't see it that way, said Keith Hill, president of the San Antonio Food Truck Association, which coordinates food truck scheduling with large employers such as the port.
“They apparently Googled it to find out (the restaurant's) menu and website and their truck page is not what came up,” Hill said, who admitted he knew the name would be controversial when Yoder opened the restaurant.
A quick Google search shows the website UrbanDictionary.com, which is known for having over-the-top and vulgar definitions for words and phrases, is the top hit on the term.
Needless to say, the definition given by the website is not Korean Fried Chicken.

Loop 1604 lanes reopen after truck with tortillas overturns
quote:
SAN ANTONIO — The eastbound lanes of Loop 1604 on the Northwest Side have reopened after a tractor-trailer overturned near Blanco Road, causing the road to be closed for several hours.
Parascan Vasile, 62, was driving the 18-wheeler eastbound on the highway just after 3 a.m. when he swerved to the left, then overcorrected to the right, according to the San Antonio Police Department. Vasile then overcorrected again to the left, causing the tractor and trailer to roll onto their right side, according to police.
Vasile did not remember what happened, according to police. He was taken to University Hospital with injuries that were not incapacitating.
Tow trucks worked through the morning to pull the truck upright.
Media reports indicated the truck was carrying six tons of tortillas, but police were unable to confirm what was in the truck
