Just got a new one for our house. I went with an LG French door full depth. I researched a TON and what i found is that they are all junk nowadays. The more bells and whistles you get, the more problems you will have. Stick to something basic and you should be fine.

The BIGGEST thing to stay as far away as possible is models with the ice maker in the fridge. You WILL have issues as some point. Bad design.

Overall I agree about sticking basic. At least set a budget knowing it's not going to last 20 years and you'll be replacing it.

But, oddly enough, LG compressors are crap. Lots of class actions about it. So doesn't matter how basic you go. We had a Kenmore (rebranded LG) with the compressor crap out. It was under "warranty" but was still going to be $1k to replace.

Later moved and house had an LG. That compressor also crapped out on us.

Got the Samsung with the water pitcher and the freezer that makes two different sized ice cubes about 5 years ago. You can also change the door colors, which my wife loves. It works really well (so far)!

As a tangent to agreeing with
ABATTBQ11 .....
maybe we first make sure you're not just a goose making golden eggs to her ... unless you got a half-price sale on the whole house.
Another new design/build was a big shot in Aggieland who quipped that his wife's over-the-top kitchen was a lot of thousand dollar bills money just to warm up Tinsley's chicken ... what was their names?

We got luck with 2013 on-sale Samsung RSG257AARS-XAA-0000 (not Fr.door) ... whose ice maker in-door has yet to be beat in over 50 years = only replaced once ... if you know how to manage ANY of them.

For what's it's worth ... Consumer Reports latest 2-cents

Doesn't 4-grand buy better fun/practical stuff than this anymore?

+1 on Samsung 4 door flex. I also swore I would not get another Samsung after ice maker issues on 2 door, but I love the 4 door flex. No issues after 4 years

On my 4-door flex, the pellet ice maker failed within 6 months. Samsung didn't even try to fix it, they just refunded me my money. Luckily, the second ice maker is still working.

I previously had a Samsung french door model with 2 icemakers. One of those failed, and couldn't be fixed - so Lowes refunded me my money on that one as well (warranty was worth it).

The french door model lasted a quite some time before failing. The 4-door is 4+ years old and going okay on the single icemaker.

Not sure I'm too upset with 2 free fridges.

Do you want a refrigerator? We stopped by a Best Buy outlet this weekend and I convinced my husband i needed a new refrigerator. So I'll be ditching my samsung for a KitchenAid.

Warning- has an ice maker issue that is causing other issues (causes the back panel to freeze over)

Mr Dubi figured out how to insulate the Samsung french door and the freezing stopped after he took it apart a zillion times. He was determine that POS was not going to defeat his skills. Our ice maker worked for 12 years which is a record for Samsung.

So whoever gets it can fix it!

Scott thought he had it insulated and sealed a few years ago. Then it froze over like a brick. Its been a PITA for almost 10 years. So we are done with it now lol.

We went with the Samsung Bespoke from Home Depot back in October and so far no issues at all. We love it.

I would be interested to know how old the Samsung refrigerators are that are having problems.

I have read that Samsung has changed the tubing and routing of hoses and made other changes that have resolved the problems in the newer models. It is hard to tell from comments that I read.

We bought ours in 2017. Our issue (and the issue of others) was that the ice maker was never fully sealed. So air from the refrigerator would leak in, creating condensation and making it think it was warmer, so it would work harder and freeze completely up.

We purchased our Samsung French door in 2011. They made a faulty product and didn't stand behind it so we will not buy that brand again.

We're at year 4 of Samsung french door with door icemaker. It worked fine until last month. I bought at BestBuy with their warranty protection. They completed $1,200 icemaker replacement at nk charge. We love the refrigerator and the icemaker. PS: the GeekSquad tech said they don't even attempt repair unless customer is BestBuy member as it is too expensive vs buying new refrigerator.

They did that for us too. Then the new one failed in a few months. So they said to go to Samsung. Who said they would reimburse us for a tube of caulk to try to fix it.

We have had this one for almost 5 years and love it. The Autofill is a gimmick and is really hit or miss.
