It is late to the game, but my wife and I need a new fridge and a quick search turned this thread up. We had a Whirlpool or Frigidaire side by side that went out in July of '25, so we replaced it with an LG French door model with dual ice makers. It was a total piece of crap, and we replaced it a week later with a Bosch French door model. When it was delivered, the box was damaged, as well as the refrigerator itself. They brought out an undamaged one a few days later.
In June this year we bought the extended warranty coverage for 3 years through Lowes, even though it had worked pretty well for us, although the ice maker would occasionally freeze up. On September 19 we were sitting in the living room watching football and heard some noises from the kitchen. I told my wife I thought it was the ice maker jammed up and trying to dump a load of ice. The noise kept up and then we heard splashing. A quick trip to the kitchen showed water on the floor and the water dispenser randomly shooting water out. After turning the ice maker and water off, we contacted Lowes for service.
The rep came out on the 22nd, looked at it and said it was a common problem with the control panel. He would order parts for that and the ice maker and come back out when they were received. Two nights ago, we received an email from Lowes warranty people telling us the refrigerator couldn't be repaired {!?!?) and we are getting the sale price refunded in credit to purchase a new one. One time an extended warranty paid off.
Now we're looking for a replacement, and it is so discouraging to see what everyone is saying about every brand out there. If you had asked me in June about the Bosch, i would have recommended it, but now, not a chance. So, no Bosch, no LG and no Samsung, as we've had terrible luck with their washer/dryers. It is so very frustrating to have to shop for a new fridge for the 3rd time in 14 months.
Thanks to everyone for your feedback on this thread.
