broken tub/shower puller knob

So the pull knob that switches the faucet in the tub to a shower in my kids' bathroom has always been a little sticky. When they were little it didn't matter too much as they always took baths and then as they got older they almost always would just hop in our shower. It was pull able but it usually required me to pull it instead of my wife.

Last week someone was in my bathroom at the kids bathtime so I said no problem they can shower in their own room. It was now just fully stuck. Grabbed knob with some pliers. Still stuck. Used some penetrating lube and vice grips and got it moving. And then popped the top of the puller off.

How fixable is this problem without opening the wall up? There's an access palenl on the other side of this wall but it's more for the plumbing down below the faucet.

I replaced my recently. You can order a replace on Amazon. You just have to make sure it is the correct brand and style. It is a plastic piece on the inside and should unscrew from underneath.

Side note, i couldn't get it to unscrew easily. I just broke the plastic stopper with the screw driver. It feel out. New one went in. DONE.

Sometimes the entire faucet spigot is just screwed on to a threaded pipe and you can unscrew it and replace it.

Be sure to look for a set screw on the underside of the spigot first

I ran into this recently with a Delta Cassidy faucet. The diverter pull knob assembly came apart. I was not able to figure out a way to put it back together so I contacted Delta, which confirmed there is not a way to re-assemble and I would need to unscrew the entire faucet and replace with a new one they shipped out to me at no cost.

As others have said, you should be able to just unscrew the entire spigot and replace with a similar one from Home Depot.

This is one of those times where seemingly complicated mechanisms that you've just been living with for multiple years ends up being $8 and an hour out of your day to fix.
