I've got a griddle on the stove top in my kitchen. It's five years old and it's great. I use it for everything. It is time for me to give it a deep cleaning. You can see the areas where I cook the most it is relatively clean.

I need some suggestions on how to clean that black film off of it at the top and around the sides. It is just a thin film and it will flake off with the right application but does not come off easily.

Any recommendations?

We have a griddle in the kitchen at our church and have a griddle cleaning kit. You can find one on Amazon.
They come with a scraper, scouring pads and pumice stones and do a good job of cleaning off the residue.

I have a 22" in my kitchen too.

How in the hell is your vent so clean and your surface so dirty!!!

Heat it to 450. Let it cool to 200-250. Quench it. Scrape it. Let it cool to 150 or so and then use a griddle stone w some type of oil. Then scrape the the mess off. Then clean with water.

Then season again

Can you take the griddle top off? You could put it in a DIY electrolysis tank and it'll strip it down to bare metal and you won't even need to breathe on it and the black stuff will fall off. We have done it with cast iron skillets and it is magical. Just have to re-season afterwards.

ETA: just looked at your picture again your griddle might not be cast iron like I was thinking (Blackstone) so electrolysis may not be best. Don't know though. I've read mixed reviews.
