Any feedback? Front door faces almost directly west and gets hammered by the west sun. Any recs on this front? Looking at Yale currently but just sure if it can withstand that UV and heat.

We have Schlage Connect Smart locks on the house. Side door faces west and gets blasted by the sun. Still works perfectly +5 years later.

I have a Yale and it gets a lot of sun. No issues with its function. It is hard to see the display numbers to enter the code, but that is the only thing.

My wife and I have a Schlage Encode Plus which works great. I would strongly recommend getting a lock with a traditional key as a backup in case the batteries die or the lock otherwise becomes inoperable while away. Some homeowners cleaning up after Helene/Milton have been locked out of their homes because they had smart locks without a manual key backup. Schlage and Kwikset are by far the two largest residential hardware manufacturers; Schlage uses a traditional keying mechanism (which can easily be rekeyed by a locksmith) while Kwikset uses their SmartKey mechanism which allows for self-rekeying, but contains a lot of plastic parts which can eventually break down and make the lock lose its keying, with repair almost impossible.

I had the kwikset Kevo smart lock, but after a while I got tired of it.. it wasn't reliable, I got kicked out the app all the time and had to relog in which was a pain because it seemed to make me reset it often.

I ended up buying a biometric lock with keypad. No wifi or connectivity.. just program some codes for different people, or have their finger work. Much happier with it. I can open my garage remotely, so if I need to let someone in remotely that's how I do it.

Thanks. Was already wanting a manual key option included but looks like I'm landing on a Schlage Encode Smart Lock as the best fit for our needs.

Our rental house has a Yale smart lock with a physical key. We've had it for probably 8 years and no issues. But it doesn't get direct sunlight.

When we moved a little over a year ago we went with another Yale at the new house. But we went with a keyless option as it's on a side patio, not our front door. No issues with it either to this point. I use it every morning when I run.

U-Bolt Pro

Faces southwest. No problems. 6 methods for opening, e.g. hidden physical key, finger print, numeric code, smartphone, etc. Programmable for contractors/schedule. Purchased their push/pull handle to go with it.

App is very easy to use for me and my wife.

Yall need to go look up The Lock Picking Lawyer on YouTube.

He will cure your desire to ever purchase a smart lock again. Heck, maybe any lock.

I have used Level Lock to turn existing locks into smart locks.

I have 3 Schlage Encode Plus locks.

Another Schlage vote. Have had one for 4 years and have replaced batteries once.

We have Kwikset Halo finger print touch dead bolt.

Not sure why reviews are 4/5 and not higher. We use our finger print to get in all the time and dislike dealing with codes.

We can open remotely via WiFi.

Schlage encode. Only gripe is how quickly they go through batteries if WiFi is on. Wish there was a recharge pack instead of using AAs

I just ordered a level deadbolt. It will integrate into existing hardware (limited compatibility). May be worth a look.

Kwikset does burn thru batteries but only on the wifi version; we get an alert when battery level is low and it also flashes a light on the actual housing inside the home. I probably swap 4 x AA batteries quarterly.

If you get the non-wifi Kwikset, batteries have last for more than a year on our rent house. The lock itself is 9 years old and still going strong.

As mentioned above, make sure to have both key and keypad in case the batteries are dead.

I have this one that I bought 2 years ago, but never installed because we went with a different color scheme. Unused with the manual and codes, but I don't have the box anymore.

I'd sell for $150

is your lock compatible with Apple homekit by any chance? if so, I might be interested in having it as a backup in case one of my locks goes bad again.
