Building a covered patio as part of our reconstruction after hurricane Beryl. Looking for recommendations on patio fans and lighting. Total area is approx 15' X 25'. Initial schematic from my designer is central fan with light kit and only (2) lights. My wife and I think we need at least (4) lights on the sloped ceiling. What all do you big money guys have in terms of fans and lighting on your patios?

I have a similar patio but it's only 17x17'. I have 4 can lights as you've shown and it works great. With yours being 8' longer I'd be inclined to have 6 lights and just put on a dimmer and then can better control the brightness level from there. Keep in mind that depending on how sloped your ceiling is you might run into a 'strobing' issue if your middle row of lights is near your fan.

Have had this fan out on the patio for 5yrs and it's been great. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Home-Decorators-ACollection-Kensgrove-II-72-in-Smart-Indoor-Outdoor-Matte-Black-Ceiling-Fan-with-Remote-Included-Powered-by-Hubspace-N608-MBK/322984459

Thanks. Does the light kit on that fan put out much?

Kinda…maybe. To be honest I've had it for five years and don't think I've turned the fan light on 5 times. I have enough other light out there that I've never had to rely on it.

Similar patio setup up too but I think mine is 14x24. I have a large fan, and 5 can lights. I would think you need at least 4.

My wife keeps turning on the lights on the fan and I keep asking her why. It doesn't put out any more light than the cans and only thing it does do is waste hours on the LED bulbs (I don't think the light on the fan is replaceable).

General Lighting: The safe thing to do might be to add wall coach lights, perhaps only two with every light on a dimmer. Why: A trip to DisneyWorld is a dramtic experience in low lighting, such as a pilot flying at night gets ... one's pupils open wide to compensate, one tends to relax and conversation flows more easily.

Task Lighting: More ceiling spots may be in order for tasks such a playing cards, crossword puzzles, etc.

Lightolier brands were always the SOP for engineers & architects past.

Our patio cover is almost that exact size. We have six can lights on a dimmer under the main portion which seems perfect. We purposely went without a light on the big ceiling fan.

Ours was just completed in the last year so it's fresh on my mind. A couple things you might want to consider just in case. We added downlights on the outside of the columns on a different switch which I really like. We leave them on 24/7 because they provide a really nice ambience. We also added an outlet to the corner of the ceiling to run string lights along the side of the pool deck. The electrician suggested it when he was doing the wiring. It's a very clean look so really glad we did that. Also, don't forget to prewire for speakers.

Definitely consider some outlets on the ceiling or up top where you may place some TVs or string lights.

4 can lights is near perfect. 2700k. 62 or 65" Minka Aire fan; no light kit; make the cans dimmable. I think light kits make fans look less sleek, less modern, and cheapen the look.

you can look at pg 2/3 to see how/where I put my can lights and fan.

We just finished our house a little over two months ago and my back patio is roughly 14x34. You will want at least 4 lights. I have 8 total lights with two fans (no light kits on the fans) but had them wire each end of patio on different switches. This gives the ability to either light up the entire patio or just one end if wanted.

We were originally going to put them on dimmer switches to have the ability to dim them down at night for ambient lighting but instead we opted to have accent lighting installed around the entire patio. I'm glad we did as it creates much better ambience than overhead lighting dimmed down would have.

I'm always of the opinion that you can never have too many lights, especially with the ability to have them on different switches and be able to turn on all or just some at any given time.
