I just opened my attic ladder and this happened, and now it won't shut. Is this a safe/easy DIY repair? Seems possibly deceptively sketchy.

Those rely on being perfectly inline. They aren't strong otherwise. As such, I'd try to straighten it back out so it closed and then replace it when I could. I don't know why attic ladders are always so rickety but I don't think I've ever crawled up any ever that weren't a bit iffy.
or grab a couple of lag bolts and some shims and get on it. I replaced the one in my house and the one in my garage with the aluminum 300lb ladder. Never done it before, but was pretty easy actually.tgivaughn said:
