Does $5400 sound fair as to the cost of replacing a pool heater? Not sure its worth the time of getting another estimate.

I do agree with their evaluation that the current one is toast. Is 15yo (never worked since I moved in 3 years ago), and opening it up it looks like rats ate through everything.

Scope and model below...

-Pentair Mastertemp 400,000 BTU low-nox natural gas heater
-chem resistant check valve
-Rodent screen protection kit
-Haul away of old

Thanks!

I think it was going to cost me 8 grand to put one in. Probably closer to 9500 realistically. Installing the gas valves on the house and heater, plus running the gas line about 12 feet, cost of pad etc. the unit was anywhere from 4-5500 depending on the quote. I didn't do it at the time but may consider it this year.

I was quoted about ~$5000 for similar.

Great, sounds about right then.

Now just need to decide if I want to do it. Never really missed it TBH, doubt we'll ever be winter swimmers, but having a spa I can't heat up is pretty lame.

I went on the cheap with my replacement. 460732 Pentair 250. Yea, takes twice as long to heat the tub given lower btu's but geez, I'm happy saving money if all I have to do is plan a half hour or so ahead of time for a hot hot tub.

3.500 installed.

Was quoted $4,800 for a JandyJXI400NK to replace a Pentair 400.

I had a Jandy 400 JXI Natural Gas installed in December 2023 for $4,500 even. All in.

4.5k-5.5k is average. Depends how handy the installer is and how hungry he is.

Technically he should have a RAIL license to install it himself if he doesn't use an electrician or plumber.
