Our 14 year old Whirlpool Cabrio needs a new control board, so we're washer (top-or front-load) shopping.

Any recommendations on which brands your experience or research says belongs in the top 3 for a washer?

Speed Queen seems to be a given, so what are the next highest rated brands?

Thanks all

LOVED the Cabrios 2006-2011
Duets were good as well 2011-2017
Now loving the LG WT7500 w/crossed fingers to last longer than prior ones

Mechanically simple. Have an LG for the massive capacity but anything analog with dials and an agitator will likely outlast it.

our last LG lasted close to 15 years. The replacement is pretty darn similar and ranks well.

Our LG didn't even make it 10 years. It was cheaper to throw it out and get a new one than to try to repair it.

Our LG lasted about 12 years when the main control board went out. Wasn't cost effective to repair but the couple technicians we talked to both said LG's were what they recommended.

same here. wasn't the board but the repair guy recommended another LG. Stressed that Samsung should be avoided...which seems to be a consensus opinion.

Those Speed Queens are apparently work horses as well, but less features/style (if one cares about that)

We are still using our 2003 Duets. Just minor repairs.

Try to buy used a reliable old machine. New stuff is crap and lasts 4 years.

Have a Samsung WA54R7200AW. Fairly new…Just replaced the 4 spring/dampers around the drum. Works good again.

Went through a few washers. Get a commercial one or just the basic one with dials on it.

Take away the Govt. efficiency restrictions, everyone should still be using the same model as their grandma's first washer.

My wife and I have an LG top loader that I purchased back in 2016; it has been excellent and recently survived its second move. Ours is an impeller model (no agitator), so it makes washing sheets, blankets, etc. much easier. One note, if shopping for LG top loaders, ensure that the washer has an option labeled as "Water Plus" or something similar; it's bypasses the government water efficiency crap. We will likely purchase another when our current one dies unless if we upgrade to a Speed Queen.

Also, when ordering, be sure that you get stainless steel braided hoses with it; most stores will bundle them automatically if you pay for delivery, but traditional rubber hoses are still available on the market, which many insurance companies won't cover damage from in the event of a burst hose.

This is exactly what my repairman recently said when he fixed our LGs. The cold water pump went out on the washer. Not sure how that speaks for LGs (maybe that is what keeps him in business). But he warned against getting a Samsung and said Speed Queens are really reliable.

We buy cheapo refurbs off craigslist for less than $200 a set, most last 5-7 years

Just did this on our Samsung. Knew to stay away, but bought during covid and it's all they had on the floor. Needless to say, it was a pretty cheap fix and now going strong again.

I just had my 8 year old speed queen go out and it was going to be over $1000 to fix it. Won't buy another. Not worth the premium price. Replaced with a top load GE with an agitator. So far I like it.

On my third LG in 11 years

The control boards have failed on 2 of them. One lasted 7 years and the second 4 years. Before that we wore mechanical parts out on a maytag and a kenmore.

Find a set of used duets. 2003 and going strong.

I have duets from around 2005 and they're chugging along. Replaced the heating element a few times, the belt and rollers, and the drain pump. All cheap and easy fixes and the wife is mad that she can't seem to ever get a new, better looking set.

Did you use generic rods? The Samsung rods are so expensive. I need to do this fix on my washer and am hoping the generic rods will work.

Went a bit off the beaten path from a brand perspective, and it's been rock solid: Electrolux.

The Stainsoak has removed stains I never thought would come out and the quick wash is actually the time listed. Zero issues in 8 years.

We moved from an old LG front load set that continually had mold issues even if the door was left open to Speed Queen. We bought speed queen for the same reasons everyone else said "commercial quality". We have had 2 issues with our dryer in the last 2 years on the speed queen (heat element, new one is supposedly built stronger to fix this issue, and now moisture sensor causes an error if higher than perm press), they have been easy to work with to repair but annoying. I don't feel the speed queen cleans as well as our front loader, however we moved between the units and the water in our current neighborhood is terrible, so that could be at play.

When we move again later this summer we are considering the change to Electrolux front loaders as we have friends who rave about theirs, and they seem to rate well.

Have the The LG WM4000H front-loading washer and the LG DLEX4000 dryer and have no issues so far.

I've been running a top load LG washer for over a decade with five kids and the only issue I've had is some soap scum build-up caused it to leak a little bit one time. Ours runs almost more than it doesn't.

Roper washer and dryer here, currently going on 22 years for each. Mechanical. Beats the hell out of my greasy diesel filled clothes, uses f tons of water. Clothes get clean. The dryer is so old the drum has almost worn through the housing. I've made a few repairs over the years and once that happens it will be done but I'll go to Home Depot and buy another set for less than 1000 and then do the same for the next 20 years.

I hear speed queen is good but I can't see a reason to burn that kind of money when the regular ones work just as good or better, cost less, last at least as long, if not longer based on the comment above…..but if you can get parts for them and fix them yourself and they are mechanical, then they should be ok.

Anyone have the stackable LG washer and dryer and any thoughts/recs/etc? We're doing stackable to save space.

can't help w/ LG side but can say that as someone that has had a stackable washer & dryer in a closet for over 16yrs I would highly recommend finding a way to do the side by side. Our old GE front loader had a couple repairs which meant I had to have one of my employees (small) put a ladder against the washer & dryer, climb up and on top of the dryer, shimmy down the back side while pushing against either wall, remove the brackets from the washer & dryer, pull the dryer plug, disconnect the dryer exhaust tube, climb back over the dryer, down the ladder, and then he and another employee had to remove the dryer. Then the appliance repair guy could work on the washing machine. Once it was repaired you get to do it all over again. This happened at least twice!

Yeah we're past the point of no return. It won't be in a closet though, which might help some.

Have a Samsung and wont get another. The damn ring when its done is annoying enough but had some issues with the latch not working on our top load making the washer unusable until its fixed. No issues with the dryer besides the finale song.

I just had an LG7155CW washer and DLE7150W dryer delivered yesterday. Everything was fine until I did a load and noticed there is NO LIGHT in the dryer. I didn't even think to check as my 15 year old basic Whirlpool had one. Will probably be returning as the no light bothers me.

Just replaced our springs for our Samsung washer and it still hasn't fixed our Sprin problem. The damn thing won't even spin one sheet in it anymore.
