Get top loader with knobs instead of electrical panel
This,
We bought one from Costco last year (EDIT: it was this one, had to go online to get sale price - used Costco rebate)
https://www.costco.com/GE-4.5-CuFt-Capacity-Top-Load-Washer-in-White.product.1294727.htmlit has some auto-fill system for the water, but be sure and do the manual switch when doing heavy items (like sheets, towels and blankets). I think it uses weight to determine the water level and the heavy stuff always comes out wet when it's done vs everything else is just damp. I've had to manually wring out the sheets a few times before I convinced the wife to set it to low/medium for the heavy stuff.
The top load with knobs seems like the simplest thing you can get now and IMO less stuff to break. No touch sceen, no wi-fi, nothing fancy.
So far it's been working great.
It replaced a GE front loader we owned for 18-years. Only thing I ever fixed on that was the pump and maybe one or two other things (DIY). But it just wasn't getting the cloths clean and we were getting all kinds of errors when using, so we ditched it. Probably ran 10,000 loads of laundry thru that thing with 4 boys in the house. Certainly got our money's worth.
