Cross post from the Houston board-
I'm purchasing a new (to me) house in the Heights and want to get someone to look at the property to tell me what my options are for a whole house generator. The house is a 1910 Bungalow that's been expanded in a historic district so I'd like to talk to someone who is familiar with all that requires.
Also, because the question has already been asked:
I'm handy and have had a "cheap mans" version with a portable 8.2 KW portable gas generator for years. My current house has a back feed that I had installed that worked ok during Harvey/Ice storm but I could only run part of the house by shedding load via the circuit panel. I can do that but it's a pain when you are burning 12 gallons of gas a day for 14 days (looking at you Hurricane Ike) and I'm not a young as I once was as the saying goes. I want the "no fuss" nature of a NG gen with an auto transfer switch and am looking for someone who can advise on placement and cost for a constrained homesite.
TIA!
