A few months back my outside unit stopped working after only being installed about 2 years ago. I called the company who installed the system and they recommended replacing all of the copper tubing with my unit and quoted me $3,500. It's my understanding the copper tubing rarely goes bad unless you have construction, primarily roof work, and so I was unsure. I asked around and other companies agreed. Eventually, I called another company out and they discovered that the installation might not have been done correctly with the wiring and a valve was missing. The new company took care of that and all is good.

My question is, should I give the original company a call and let them know what was wrong with the system? I've always been happy with the work they've done and they are highly recommended, so I feel like they might appreciate it.

Thoughts.

What kind of warranty did you have? I just got a new unit & it had a 10 year warranty on parts, condenser, coils, etc. 1 year warranty on labor. The problem you had should have been covered.
This was pretty much the same on all 3 quotes I received.

If I were you I wouldn't be offering tips to the company about how to improve the crappy job they did, I'd be on their a$$ to pay for it! (You're out of luck here IMO since someone else did the repair)

The copper tubing wasn't part of the install and for the most part, warranties cover parts and not labor.

Copper tubing wasn't the issue, I thought it was wiring & a valve that should have been installed. Was that not part of the new unit installation?

I'd still be pissed if I bought a new unit out that the tech didn't notice previously installed improper wiring & a missing valve, but those guys can be pretty myopic sometimes.
