Had some new sod installed 11/2 with a good layer of topsoil underneath. We watered as recommended - twice/day for 2 weeks and every day for about 10 days thereafter. About 60 - 70% looks okay and green - but certain spots/squares are turning brown. Any ideas as to cause or remedy? It feel pretty wet still - could it be getting too much water? Location is Houston.

grass is going dormant for the winter. Mine is doing the exact same thing. You're good.

I get that but some spots are much greener than others, which is my concern. If that's the answer, makes me feel better though.

I'm not able to zoom in on the desktop but it looks like brown patch. It attacks the base of blade. Won't kill the grass, just doesn't look great. You can apply a granular fungicide if you like.

Should I do that now even though it will be going dormant soon? Or just wait til Spring?

if I were you (and something I need to do as well asap) I'd skip the fungicide for now and put down pre-emergent weed preventer.

Pre emergent is a no no for new sod based on what I understand. The roots need to get fully established before the application.

I did new zoysia in the spring and was told that by a friend who handles the upkeep for a local golf course and the company I pay for fertilization/weed maintenance.

Looks like brown patch or large patch. Apply Scotts Disease X at the curative rate in the area. Too much water for the night time temperature. Cut back on the water.

New SA or zoysia is almost guaranteed to get brown patch this time of year if you're watering it as much as you should be, unless you put down a fungicide. The pic is a little blurry so not 100% that's what it is but it wouldn't surprise me.

Absolutely do not put a pre-emergent on it.

And new sod does some weird things. Some squares will be brown and others green. The grass is doing weird things this time of year anyways. I wouldn't rush to do anything until it gets established and is green next year. A fungicide isn't going to hurt anything though.
