Outdoor TV streaming device?

We're putting in a new outdoor fireplace with TV above, and I assumed I could use an Apple TV device with WiFi behind the TV as my source source. However Apple doesn't recommend it for outdoor use. I don't have a good remote location for it with an HDMI extender, so I'm wondering what other folks in a similar situation have done? Thanks.

I use Roku sticks for this. Cheap enough to not care if they break due to weather.

Roku/TCL 4k 65" can be had for less than $600 on black Friday. I have had one on my back porch for 4 years with no issues. You can also hook it up to a Bluetooth speaker via the Roku app on your phone.

Another vote for roku. I plugged in a cheap wifi extender in the garage on the other side of the wall from the TV and it works pretty well. My irrigation control and garage door opener are on the same signal and no issues.

Just get a smart tv that can download channels, almost all can do it. There's Roku ones and the Google play stuff is fine too.

Let me throw in info that wasn't asked but could be beneficial

Check the credit card for whatever Tv you will buy. I used my Sapphire Reserve for my Vizio we put out on our patio, and the TV lasted 2.5 years. Picture then went south quick, and I used one of the warranty benefits on the credit card which extended my standard warranty by an additional year for a complete refund of the TV. They even compensated me for the TV repair inspection.

TV came with 1 year warranty, Costco gave it a 2nd year, my credit card gave it a 3rd year.

For outdoor TV's you can get the Samsung Terrace which is made for exactly what you describe however you will pay for it. A lot of us go the "buy cheap if it fails it hurts less" route and having a credit card to cover the TV just makes it that much better.

Roku - and get a little USB power adapter and you can power it from the tv's usb port.

Only problem I have is that I constantly get a "Your Roku Device is Overheating Warning"...it's never shutdown or anything, just pops up on the screen every 10 minutes or so.

Fire TV sticks if you already are an Amazon Prime member. Pretty cheap and often free with other purchases around this time of year. We've had better luck with them compared to the Roku devices.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the Apple TV remote isn't IR for the actual Apple TV box, just if you want to use it for volume/power to the TV. To control the Apple TV, you don't need direct line of site as it connects via bluetooth.

And to actually answer your question, as others have stated, get a TV with a Roku already built in. We bought a 43" TCL that is in our gym and it works great. Have all of the same apps as our Apple TV does on the main TV in the house.

We also have a Fire TV 4k on the TV in the formal that the kids use. They're extremely cheap but I've found them to not be as fast as the Roku or the Apple TV (the fastest).

I've had an AppleTV box behind our outdoor TV for going on 7 years with no issues. It's a covered patio that endures extreme heat and some freezes. The box, tv, and cables all get dusty/dirty but keep on working so far. We also have Sonos sound bar that is still going strong out there as well.

We use dish network and they have a wireless Joey that we connect to our outside TV. Works well.

If you get the samsung terrace it has a small waterproof indentation with cover on the back of the tv that you can hide a streaming device inside.

Are you thinking direct connect soundbar or are you looking for something to run through a receiver in a cabinet?

If it's the latter, I put these up in my garage and they sound pretty good dang for the price. When I hooked a sub up, I'm confident in saying I have the best sounding garage on the street. Well, maybe 2nd best...Frenchy a couple houses down with his cammed Hellcat may be the reigning king.

I am thinking wireless speakers or just a soundbar connected to the TV as I have an outdoor TV just connected to TV through a ROKU.

I"ve had apple TV on my patio TV for years no issue. Also remember you can use your phone as a remote assuming you have an iphone. (came in handy when my son for some reason put the apple remote in the pantry!)

I've also had an apple tv (and a sonos beam) on my patio for 4 years now with zero problems.
