So we're close to finishing a new house and I wish to run power out to where a new raised-bed garden will be. This will serve LED string lighting and a greenhouse (fans, etc). So not too much loa.

It's approximately 125' and I have a bunch of 3/4 pvc conduit already that I would like to use. Was thinking of a 30 amp 110V circuit and put a sub panel w 2 15's at the garden. I am not in any way an electrician. I have an electrical contractor but haven't asked them yet, but request a TA opinion.

Will this work and what size wire would I need?

ETA we are trenching this week and it's in the country.
I don't think you know me.

I'd say a better/cheaper idea is to forget the subpanel and run a 20A multiwire branch circuit. Wire size would be #12. But rule of thumb anything greater 100 ft should go up a size. Though I doubt LED string lighting and fans will have that big of a voltage drop.

Many prefer to burry ridgid conduit since it only has to be 6" deep vs 18" for pvc

If thats all you ever plan to use out there I think a subpanel is overkill. #12 wire is fine for that distance. I would simply put a gfci outlet in an outdoor(covered) box.

That's over $3/ft. vs the leftover conduit he has now. Plus he has a trencher.

If you go with a single 20A circuit, you can bury it 12". Don't even need conduit.

Thanks guys, good info.

Direct burial at least 24" and the transition to above ground must be in conduit.

Conduit or direct bury, put some locate tape or caution tape above it.

Not for residential 20A circuit protected by GFCI. 12"

Id use PVC if I had it and put wire in that. I try to follow all codes if reasonable. But burials depths for me are not based on code so much as "whatever I can get". Generally that's 6" deep or less. Lol. But, it works and it's in conduit so…screw it. Direct bury is fine but I just don't like it even if it's easier.
