Just moved into a house with 4 LTS PoE cameras installed with an NVR - (the previous homeowner left).

Messed around for a bit and got the system to work on my phone when on home wifi but need to figure out how to view when off home network. System feels very dated though (although house is 2018 - just feels like more for viewing after the fact if an issue arises vs able to see alerts on something in real-time).

Trying to figure out if want to keep current cameras and see if can get better software with it or if should just scrap the whole thing and start over with the latest and greatest cameras/software (seen people mention Blue Iris software).

Mainly just want to be able to view 24/7 feed whenever I want from a computer/phone.

Any insight?

A new nvr would likely get what you want. Dont need to scrap the poe cameras likely. I have a reolink nvr and once linked in my app, i can view my cameras from anywhere.

Can probably pull the drive from old nvr if its same interface, wipe it, install in new nrv to save a few bucks.

oh yea. I had a camera system like that a while back. I had to set up an IP address and hostname for each camera. I remember I went to No-IP for that. Cant remember exactly how but i used the software to link the ip, hostname address and email address for email forwarding and camera control. Good luck!

Use tailscale to make your phone think its always on your home network. Far better than opening ports and playing vpn

Agree with UmustBKidding on Tailscale. I currently run Blue Iris and it's great. I would get that going and then you can replace cameras on an as needed/wanted basis. I would suggest test driving a single camera at a time then ordering more if you like it. Amazon returns are easy.
